Not sure if this is just an Australia thing but the oceanic server is now consistently at 260 ping which is similar to playing on the USA servers.

I am on the Optus network.

The game is becoming difficult to play competitively.

Anyone else having similar issues?

BTW will the Steam release open up the possibility for more servers? Can we move the Oceanic server to Australia?

I'm with iiNet in Melbourne and the servers are faster for me.

Before the cable break my ping was ~130ms, now after it has been fixed my ping is ~100ms.

While the cable was down my ping was ~200ms. My NA server ping is ~240-280ms.

There used to be an issue where certain providers in AU were slower due to reasons. Could just be your ISP crapping out.

If your ISP is anything like mine they have changed routes and are now sending your route to the other side of Australia before heading back and leaving the country. My retar-ded (filter) ISP has been routing from Philippines to Los Angeles to Singapore for the past month and I've gone from 80-90 ping to 250.

btw I am now using this cool tool call winmtr for tracing.

My avg ping is 273 according to this reporting tool.

There seriously has to be some sort of organisation that manages how the network connections flow for each ISP as it is business issue, nationality security issue and capitalist competitive fair dinkum issue.

Why would you pay extra for Telstra if the network route makes things as slow as Optus.

Anyone know more about this issue?

All of a sudden my signal was going from the Philippines to LA before going to Singapore. I also had a problem with a certain provider in the states. A VPN fixed both those issues and made the game playable again. Pingzapper worked in the states and astrill (or something like that) works well in Asia.

I started an Astrill free trial and it's lowered my ping to 115. Not as good as it was 3-4 weeks ago, but back into the realm of decent. Thanks a bunch for the tip, now I'm slightly less furious at PLDT for this routing stupidity, but they can still go to hell.

OMG it is actually faster to use the USA server than it is to use the oceanic server on the Optus network. 250ms USA, 263ms Oceanic...

I'll be switching to Telstra soon.

With iinet my ping has gone from 160 before the issue to 108 after.. ..huge improvement. Based in Syd.

VPNs are a touchy subject due to some comp teams artificially raising the ping on their lights, making them harder to hit. I haven't heard anything bad about them in a while though, and I strictly use it to make the game playable. They're all different though, so results vary widely by location, depending on whether they have a server in your area and another close to the game server. So it's worth doing some research and trying a few before you choose one. They all usually have free trials.
