So, I am coming on here to vent. I have used an online handle of CanOWhupAss since MW2 first came out. I have used in on Microsoft, Steam, Blizzard, etc... I got an email from our admins from Disney/Pixar, that even though this game is for ages 13 and up, that my name violated their "code of conduct"... They offered to allow me to pick 3 other names. Since when did a 100 ton mech become ANYTHING besides a Can of Whoop Ass?

That's unfortunate for ya. Write to support and see if they are sympathetic to your plight. Ultimately "someone" had complained about your name, and PGI changed it. Which they are fully allowed to do.

I have even been in touch with tech support and customer support a few times with no issues what-so-ever... Some jealous person out there is mad because I snagged a good name and then decides they want to report it? Piranha Games then caves in to such silly and petty complaints? Maybe I should start reporting every name that doesn't have a Care Bear or My Little Pony reference?

Is "Banditio" disparaging against Mexican Americans? Better be careful man... The PC police might be coming for you next... lol

Amazing... They claim to have word filters, yet this message board fully allows me to write the word ASS... Ass, ass, ass

Hmm, I've seen some bad and offensive names... but the name you chose, OP, is not offensive at all.

Nope... They GAVE me this crappy handle that is being shown here. I have sent them a couple of emails but no replies as of yet. It sure would have been nice to have had this issue brought up before I started dropping real money into this game.

I get what the OP is saying, but we had someone in my unit experience the exact same thing. He had to have the pilot name Mechwarrior+some # for a few days. However, things were resolved fairly quickly, he got one of the names he picked of the 3 he suggested.

I think with the new Report feature they are clamping down on potentially offensive names more than before.

If they are going to be this strict, I will find another game to play. I've already sent in my kickstarter for Battletech. I will report the hell out of some names before I leave though just to prove a point. I work in front of a computer all day from home, so making it a hobby is not a big deal.

What sort of name did he have to begin with? I don't want any other name - not even CanOfWhupAss.... I have been a Can O' Whup Ass for forever. I'll be dammed if I am going to change it to the lowest common denominator.

They do the same thing here, you get an e-mail from support that your name has been reported and they give you the option of choosing another name. Problem is for many people the support e-mails get flagged by spam filters so you probably missed it.

But with the advent of the in-game report feature people are reporting things now since they don't have to do it outside of the game by sending e-mails to support.

I had one alt I named MomsTampon that got the name censored. I wasn't sure whether PGI are misogynist or don't allow brand names.

"Here" is the same as "in-game"... My accounts are one in the same. My argument is that my name is NOT offensive. I have had many compliments on it over the years. Just because someone reports something as "offensive", the moderators should know that I didn't ACTUALLY have anything offensive considering this IS Mech Warrior we are playing...

Yet you said it was flagged on another game and they sent you and e-mail giving you options of new names, they do the same thing here...

While many don't think a name such as yours is bad, some people take it as a literal threat of kicking their behind. Such is the PC world we live in where people think "cyber bullying" is a real thing and an actual criminal offense. Deal with it and move on.

Believe it or not, some people do find the term "ass" offensive. You may not, you may disparage other people who do, but part of "freedom" tends to be respecting others when you use it.

Could care less about your name, but in our increasingly PC, panties in a twist society, it is what it is...and I have a feeling you are going to find it increasingly difficult to use that name in games, including HBS's Battletech.

If you are going to rage over "being repressed" over something that is honestly ridiculously minor? Well, that's up to you.

Maybe I'll request my name be changed to "ICanCountToPotato", or "BlameCanada" or maybe "HerpDerp"... Rage as I might, I promise you I can and will find something offensive about everyone else's name. I wonder if ISIS is taken?

Isis is actually the name of an Egyptian goddess, ironically enough, and a name that some people actually have IRL. I wouldn't be surprised if there were some account names containing it. Unfortunately, the recent political events have tainted that normally legitimate name...

I understand about the double meaning behind ISIS, which is my point. CanOWhupAss is a term used quite heavily in the military (proud veteran here). It's also used here in the south. We are playing battletech, not barbie dolls. I can't believe that someone would find offense to the name, let alone that the moderators would actually side with them. It's not like I picked FuqDatBeoyotch or something actually threatening.

I've already reached my limit for reporting names (today)... I guess I will have to start again tomorrow... Sad that this is what the world has become.

I love that our society caters to the LCDs (Lowest Common Denominators) of the world. If you don't know what that means, you likely are one, so never mind.

The Politically correct, let's not have "winners" but participants, everyone gets a ribbon idiots of the world are slowly dragging the rest of the planet down to their level of idiocy just as shown in the satirical movie Idiocracy.
