But meh, the Houses (sort of) stood united against the Clans in the lore. Why wouldn't coalition forces make sense?

It makes less sense for the Clans, though, given how they had their own invasion sectors and bidding systems within their own factions. But hey, if it gets FW rolling and enough people play and good improvements are made, then why the heck not?
