There are quite a few that are better (in the sense of more finished): Warframe, Path of Exile, Team Fortress 2, DotA 2, War Thunder, etc.

Warframe is awesome, and console-worthy (I have it on the XB1), but it's a completely different kind of game entirely.
Path of Exile is just... meh. It can and will get boring after a while.
Team Fortress 2 is a relic, and while people enjoy it, most would be happy to try something new that doesn't blow like the majority of F2P shooters on Steam (RIP Blacklight Retribution, you used to be a good game before Parity).
DotA 2 is a moba. Again, different kind of game entirely. That community and the shooter community =/= each other.
WAR THUNDER IS COMPLETE TRASH!!! Everyone rants about the horrible era balance and Russian bias, but all of it is true so it wasn't worth playing. Also feels arcade-ish, even on the highest mode. At least PGI pretends like they have a clue what balancing and community input is! Posted Image

World of Tanks... might get some draw from that community in terms of just mixing it up once in a while.

War Thunder is a decent game and it's miles ahead of MWO in virtually every regard. Heck, players can even send in historical "bug" reports with data regarding the planes and the Devs will look into it to make the planes as historically correct as possible. Also they have basically nothing to work from regarding damage value etc. How do you tell the numerical difference between a British 20mm gun and a German one? PGI on the other hand had a complete rule-set to start with, and they still managed to botch it big time. Just look at LRMs or the ECM debacle. Yes, MWO is not TT, but still they had a good place to start from, like ER-PPC = 150% damage of a regular PPC etc., while War Thunder hat to start from scratch, and still they do a better job at balancing than PGI, even though they not only have a LOT more vehicles to balance, but they also have to deal with things as complex flight models etc.

I mean, look at PGI: Now after 3 years they finally noticed that the mobility skill bonus is ridiculous. After THREE years, and it's not like we told them time and again. Not to talk about ECM, which until this day still is a magical Jesus box, just with a lower range as of today.

Last I played War Thunder I quit as soon as I got to the T34. Massivly OP, can hardly scratch them and they bounce almost every shot. Those shots that do pen take the crew from "Perfectly healthy" to "Mildly perturbed." Once I got my own T34 the game became a point and click adventure. I didn't need to reverse or back off half the time and I don't think I ever had to once angle my armour as I had all through the german and US lines... no one could touch me.

I always laughed at the Russian Bias claims... wrote them off as angry try hard... and then I experienced it from both sides. At least with PGI are _trying_ to keep balance, in their own way.

And let's not get started on the aircraft. Ugh.

But hey, each to their own.

In Warthunder the T34 becomes a fast moving glass cannon at higher tiers once the Tigers and Panthers come in. The Russians do seem to have a lot of good tanks, but they did so historically as well. Warthunder is a pretty good game, but the grind becomes unbearable at the higher tiers.

In any case Warthunder is a completely different beast than MWO. It's a historical tank/plane sim, and tends heavily towards realism. Because of that, it has a lot of one shot kills, and has the typical hidey-snipey play of most realistic sims.

MWO is a mech shooter, tending more towards the arcadey (and that's not a bad thing). There's a lot more run and gun, and barring some lights (and cockpit shots), no one mech can one-shot any other mech. A lot of people complain about TTK, but MWO probably has the highest 1 on 1 TTK of any ground-based shooter out there. It plays a lot more like Quake (and older shooters), as opposed to Counterstrike. And this is its greatest strength, because there are not that many experiences like it.
