Ok ok ok.. you all keep forgetting that this universe you are playing in is coming out of a dark age that was precipatated by the Inner Sphere nuking many of the technological capitols in to glowing craters of doom.

They went from building giant drophips that could 'jump' lightyears and deliver dozens of mechs to a battle to OMG how the frack do I keep that thing running without all the support parts from where-ever.

The tech has only recently been starting to recover from several psuedo religious anti tech / tech consolidation {Godwin's Law} moves on the part of some very large very organized douchebags

  • --------This is 1000 years in the future and the lore has humanity mastering the Fusion tech where it gives a big return on investment of energy. See tests in CALIFORNIA today where they are current at the break even point on Fusion, once they get that figured, free energy for all is entirely possible.
  • Why does none of the mechs have a countermeasure to projectiles, and the only counter measure to rockets is a "gun" shooting it down, when there are already reactive armour and other neat counters?
  • ---------this is MWO failing to institure the laser AMS which had a heat signature and was able to shoot down missles without ever overheating. Because of Paul's FEAR of Heat Neutrality, mechs in MWO do not get True Double heat sinks and actually SUCK at heat dissipation as a result. Poor Design Decision 101.
  • Why does a computer 1000 years ahead not just lock on a target when he visually confirms it?
  • ---two parts 1) you don't have the neural networked helmet to carry that off 2) this is simulated within the game itself by crosshair over mech Q key by default
  • Why do they use flat armour layouts, prone to be penetrated?
  • ----Again lostech. The cool angled armor platings that are curved are much much harder to replace and maintain when fighting a tech slide into oblivion. Flat stamps out faster and easier.
  • Why are there no ultra precise "space killer vehicles", as in the modern sattelite weapons. Just drop them where the mechs are - battle won
  • ----There are. The Innersphere houses have all agreed on NOT using them to preserve what's left of their infrastructure. These Mechs we fight in are their Armies by Proxy akin to old timey knights.
  • Why do they even have unguided missiles?
  • ----Again LOSTECH. It is far easier to do the WWII style tubes pointing forward and BOOM than anything else.
  • Why do they have artificial "muscles" propelling the mech? And how is armour hodling on those things, if they contract and relax like real muscles, and thus changing their volume constantly.
  • ----This again is LosTech. The Myomer muscles are very difficult to produce and they have a specific set of dimensions to their 'cavity' so they cannot grow or get moved out of step with the skeleton they interact with.
  • Why does a single "inferno" rocket cook a mech? And if this works, why no just shoot them with those things form infantery or small, fast vehicles. Seems like a waste to use a mech if its killed so easy. Not to mention what drones and stuff would do with a mechs lance.

  • And why do they use mashine guns in anti personal warfare? Use ONE incendiary rocket (modern version: magnesium and some explosves to set it off) and simulatly burn then, rupture there lungs, cook them form the inside, burn their air and poison them? Should kill a few hundred with each shot, building and cover does not matter.
  • ---For the same reasons that we agree not to use Mustard Gas to annhilate asses like ISIL ..
  • Whats with EMP Bombs? Set it off in the atmposphere or slightly below and watch the lights go out in a country. And reduce all mechs to metal statues
  • ---again not allowed via treaty. The tech they have they are barely holding on to..
  • Tank mines? Use mines that go off at 20tons+ and watch those mechs become useless. I they cant detect mechs that hide in digged holes (books...), they cant detect mines, and the infantry would be safe.
  • ---MWO fails to do combined arms. Why I don't know, it would add TONS of depth. and give a use for MGs and flamers.
Its a fairy tale about heroes and big stompy mechs. I like fairy tales

One Thing About Mech Warrior
Anti-tank technology has advanced so far since this game came out.
To beat tanks and armor there is so much technology out there.
From Smart Anti-tank Mines
To The Javelin Anti-tank Missile
To the Hellfire Missiles
To the Maverick Missle
To Even the GAU autocannon a weapon that can be fired at long range and o heavy damage on tanks.
HECK buried Shell IED traps large enough to tip over a battlemech is now seen.

I sometimes think the Combat system and technolgies of Mechwarrior Universe is pretty stagnant.

well only because we didn't envolve.
I'm currently obseced with the idea to bring BT Lore weapons into the next level.... I have a very good feeling about the Defiance Class J of the Sentinel or Zeus for example.
I take the caliber of 75mm. Ammunition for example is armor piercing with hard core and explosive (Raufoss MP but for 75mm)
With better propellant, light weight casing and a electro thermal ignition of the propellant this 75mm impacts with 13MJ and penetrate 419mm face hardened armor.
Doesn't sound much? Sure the 120mm Rheinmetall of the M1 might penetrate 670mm with its flechette.
But the main difference is the incendiary and the filling of the autocannons projectile.
So even semi-penetrating or deflecting shots might damage the target.
Not to mention that the 75mm Defiance J might fire 4 shots i the time the Rheinmetall fires a single one.

Don't forget that I limit myself to data that is based on the game - i want to keep 20 shots per ton of AC ammunition. I need to keep the bullets APX.
