So... while waiting for today's patch, i decided to run around a bit in Elite:Dangerous Horizon Beta. Then my eyes glued to this.....

...I wonder if other factions' capital world is out there somewhere too.

Yes, I realize E:D and Battletech has nothing to do with each other. But seeing 2 games that i am currently playing have something similar, I can't help being surprised.

I saw this system as well and thought similar, but then what marack said. at google: http://wiki.astro.co.../de/Ras_Alhague

strangely "rasalhague" itself hits a lot more mechwarrior related results on google. Either because google is tracking too muhch of personal usage or just MW having more relations to it than some astrology stuff it orginates from..

Interesting random fact about Rasalhague. The name is actually from Arabic. I find this curious since this series puts Rasalhague as either under the control of the Dracs or Space Vikings. Just find it interesting. You'd think they'd give it their own name instead.

Not entirely, the name for the star was already existing before. More strange is the choice of the BT loremasters having chosen Rasalhague as the name giver for the space vikings/dracs. There porbably would have been a more fitting planet in the region for this choice. or they just wanted to troll their palyerbase by giving somethign a name no one can properly speak for the first time.

The DC consists of settlers from Scandinavian as well as the Arabic room (Arkab Legion)
Its just plain wrong the DC are just japans, they are just the major political force and were in the right position to create and form the Combine. But at all the DC is as Japaneese as the LC is German or the Liaos Chinese (they were just political ursupators)

After the 4th Succession Wars - the Tamar Pact got lots of their planets back. (Tamar was founded by a Familys whose ancestors came from Pakistan???) and the secession of Rasalhague - was just another political plot:
  • sow rebellion in the LC
  • reduce the size of the border
  • get more Mechs for the DC
The creation of Rasalhague was maybe not been planed when background of BattleTech was created, like there were no plans for the Clans.

Last not least there are lots of systems in BT that are real stars (Betelgeuse, Epsilon Eridani, Sirius....)
others are just fiction (Ein Ort; Senftenberg...)

I know this. But seeing as how the leading group is Japanese and such, I just thought it was interesting they didn't rename some of the planets. Much like the way the Ottomans renamed Constantinople to Istanbul when the took it, despite its population being majority, Byzantine/Eastern Roman and Christians (at the time). This also happened in Bombay (Mumbai), Saigon to Ho Chi Minh City, Königsberg to Kalingrad etc many cities were translated or changed completely to their conqueror's language. It seems to happen a whole lot in actual history, so I just thought it interesting that it didn't happen here in BattleTech where they do a hell of a lot to create their own history and such.

Or simply gave themselves another name not including Rasalhague. "Rebublic of weeaboos" for example

...if my mind start overlapping E-D and MWO

<imagining there are battles on the planets in various systems
<seeing the biggest ships in E-D as Dropships
<now that planetary landing kicked into beta, starting to see myself dropping a battlemech (not an SRV)
<thinking about Powerplay as CW

, I blame you guys...Posted Image

That said...I am wondering how much progress it will add to my explorer rank, if I am to visit capital system of each faction. The longest I've been wandering around was 40 jumps non-stop in my Vulture (16.30 LY jump range). Posted Image Coupled with fully analyzing every unidentified systems on the way, it would take hours or maybe even days...
