This is something that has gnawed at me since the first time I opened MWO a year ago:

The MWO models are SO well done, and we spend so much time (and cash, ahem) making the mechs look just how we want in the game, but we can't view them in a way that lets us appreciate all the great detail. Ditch the execution wall, give the mechs a slightly more casual pose maybe, and let the mech art shine! Posted Image

BTW, yes I know some people could care less, and nothing is more important than analyzing if one mech's CT is a tiny bit higher than another, etc... but a camera perspective toggle would be incredibly welcome.

(Also, I saw some old shots of the game from years ago [launch?] where it looked like this used to be the case, but it was changed at some point to the views we have now. Personal opinion and all, but it feels like that was a huge step back for the game's setting.)

BTW, here's a couple old images I dug up... these look SO much cooler IMO.

I've brought this up a few times. For example have read of this thread.
http://mwomercs.com/...an/page__st__40

I agree with you completely. That maurader looks like a cute little model you can place in the palm of your hand. It seem PGI go out of their way NOT to give a sense of scale. They do everything that can be done to make the mechs feel like people in costumes, they even have the gravity set perfectly to match that to the same level as if the mechs were human sized, and so the game feels exactly like you playing a First person shooter like call of duty, except that the people are a bit drunk.

Watch the video to the end. Its a really good explanation of the gravity in MWO and why its too much.

I would love if the mechs fell like they are supposed to. Having the proper gravity alone makes it feel 50% better.

The way they fall now they mechs on the battle field act more like rats than mechs.

This is why I feel the skill tree nerfs were one of the best things to happen to MWO in a while.

Read through that whole other scale thread you posted. While I agree with you pretty much all through that thread, to me SO much of the *FEEL* we're talking about is in the presentation itself.

People can nitpick the actual scale and lore all over the place, but the main thing I'm on about here specifically is presentation... I just like the camera position lowered and field of view broadened so it's presented like a big hanger instead of a diorama. From there I wish we had some way to see the mechs so we can take awesome pics of it, share it easily, etc. I hate not having access to any kind of free cam in the testing grounds for example.

Late IS Mechs are incredibly small, much smaller than they should be.
Clans are ridiculously huge (scratch few exceptions) and nobody does anything about it. Lights to assaults, too big... and not a single damn given.

Hard not to think that PGI isbunch of IS loyalists.

Somewhat related to scale, I miss the slow, lumbering movement animation we once had.

So much yes! I created a thread pretty similar to this sometime back but I don't think I put it very well:

I think I heard someone at PGI once mention they were redoing the mechlab to view better in 3D... but that was sometime back and I haven't seen it pop up at all since then. :(

Stoobs will get scared and die from fear if they can't twitch like cracked-out methheads.

To help add a sense of scale to the menu, adding little people to the scene would really help. Along with the ability to rotate the camera with the RMB. You could set the camera low, and look up in awe at the massive metal titans you own.

Ever since the Awesome was added to the game, I have hated the assault mechs walking animations. The Atlas has great animation, it moves like a massive 100 ton mech: Slow and long steps that make is seem big and heavy. But the newer assault mechs move like a light mech that is taking tiny steps to artificially decrease its speed.

The Dire Wolf takes quick little two foot long steps while moving ~50kph, while the Stormcrow takes long slow steps while moving ~90kph. So the massive 100 ton behemoth could actually walk faster than the mech half its size, if only it took bigger steps. You can really see the difference from in the cockpit, too. Because the bouncing of the cockpit of the Dire Wolf is much faster than the Stormcrow, it gives the illusion that the Dire Wolf is moving faster, but its just the silly prancing walking animation.

This makes the assault mechs seem far less massive than they should. A 100 ton mech's legs should each weigh at least 20 tons, if not more. And not to mention how inefficient the movement is. There is so much wasted effort going into bouncing the mech up and down, and so little into actually moving it forward.

Which is exactly why all of the best mechs in every single weight class are Clan mechs!
Wait...

I only wish they'd eventually add some lateral feedback to the player's camera, so that I can see, that I'm actually stomping the ground with a large mech, not just floating across the landscape on the fixed height. Also would help immersion when hit by autocannons and PPCs and landing after JJet jump.
