Perhaps in the 3R you can get away with a long ranage XL build, that's probably your best bet for consistent high scores... you can try things like 4x LL, 1x goosewaffle and see if that does it.. otherwise I think the STD build with 2x UAC5, 2x PPC may be interesting, that's one build that I didn't get around to testing yet, still stuck on the 3x AC5, 4x ML which works fine.

...for me the hardpoint layout kind of leads me to short range STD builds and then you get limited survivability in the MAD so it's difficult to rack up the real top scores against good opponents. Delivers stable 300-600 dmg though so I guess it's ok, just not great.

So far I like the BHii best for in-your-face-builds with 7x MPL, 1x AC20. Works really well on the right maps...

The marauders hitboxes are ******* magical.

I don't know why everyones so scared to run XL engines.

I run XL 350-360 on every MAD i own.

Speed is life and this thing twists like a boss.

So far the people that fire at me has done a good job on hitting the STs, especially the "hunch". I don't think I have finished a single game with both STs intact and CT gone so that's why I put an STD in all of them. :)

When you're walking along at 60-70 kph and cant twist at all because of your garbage engine rating then of course they're going to pick you apart.

I regularly survive down to 20% with my XL marauders and most are set up for brawling.

I've been regularly scoring around 500-600 damage games. my XL300 bounthunter pulled 1200.

Not to mention as I said before, this hitboxes on this thing are fantastic. I can consistently get hit CT when I need to.

When people start dropping their timberwolves again, most of you STD MAD pilots are in for a rude awakening.

The TBR's aren't going to wait for you to bring your payloud to bear.

The XL-MADs are also in for a rude awakening, once they regulary face TBRs.

The TBR is simply the better mech.

You're right, but why make it easy for them? Match their speed and their twist, and you'll have a far better chance then standing stock still with 3 AC5s.

I actually run an STD 295.

Because the twist range is small enough for the speed to not matter, and I could use the extra ton saved from a 300 engine for another ton of AC5 ammo.

I'm finding mine to be good mech but not great mech. With the gauss nerf and not really having ballistics quirks I'm having a hard time pulling in the big damage scores even on my best games.

The mad 3r(s) has Ballistic quirks +10% something or other..2uac5s and 4 ml kick ass. BH II with AC20 and 7! ML also kicks ass(though it's more situational and requires a team with balls)

It kicks but and takes names. I have a 1.67 KDR and not out of basics yet.... Let that sink in. Not done exping the mech and putting up some 2+ kill games, with minimal effort.

This post is funny to me. PGI has been releasing redundant mechs for quite some time now. My garage is full of redundancies. The MAD's appeal is entirely nostalgic, not 'ooh look what it can do.'

MAD's have been pretty good for me so far, though I haven't been playing them exclusively.

Had a nice 1100+ dmg 6 kill match in this beast last night: MAD-5D

For further confirming that the Timberwolf is still the best 75 tonner? Posted Image

Marauder is one of the most iconic mech of BT. I am sure many players are satisfied with the nostalgia factor alone.

BL-7.KNT-L would like to have a word with your "OP" TBRs.

MAD, huh good God
What is it good for?
Absolutely nothing, listen to me

Oh, MAD, I despise
'Cause it means destruction of innocent sides
MAD means tears to thousands of players eyes
When their Mechwarriors go off to fight and lose their lives

I'm surprised it took this long for someone to make that joke.

If you cant make it work, its either the mech not fitting or you doing something that doesnt fit the mech .

So keep trying gentlemen, good luck on your path to your builds .

WOW... 2 days with my MADs and I now know what it is for! The MAD is really a mini sized assault mech with the profile, speed and jump of a medium mech and the armor and firepower of an assault mech!!!! WOW!!! I have been absolutely rocking the battlefield with my MAD so far, not fearing to go face to face even with a Direwolf!

Why is it so?

My MAD-5D has 462 armor (my twin AC20 Warhawk has only 460), 68.2 Firepower (My warhawk prime has 50), runs at 80kph and jumps!!!! No wonder so many players feel like going head to head with a MAD is like trying to bring down an assault! It simply have that much armor for such a skinny mech!!!

Going face to face with assaults mechs isn't a problem because almost no assault mechs have that much direct firepower in a brawl. My last game I brought down two Direwolfs full health because face to face, I am pumping my full 68.2 damage in their face while they probably are doing something like 40 direct damage. With my twist, both of them failed to even breach my armor.

So there you have it, the perfect brawler! Just put 60 front armor on both side torsos and you will be ready to rock and roll!

Damn, this mech makes me wanna defect to IS!

(just ended another match with 2 kills including a face to face with a timberwolf and I was spectating another successful MAD and it had the exact same setup... 2SRM + 3ML + 2 LPL.... ROCKS!)

Personally I find the Marauder to be a more consistantly high scorer for me than any of my other mechs. Now, this may just be that it suits my piloting style, but still, it feels tanky yet responsive enough not to be sluggish. The 3R is my favourite so far which I run "super stock": 300 STD engine, endo steel, DHS, near full armor, 2 PPC, 2 ML, 1 UAC5 with 3 tons of ammo.

Now, granted I live and fight in the Tier 4 underhive, so that may have an effect as well, but I regularly find myself having games where I do 500 to 700+ damage and get at least a couple of kills more often in the MAD than in any other mech I own.

Having a hard time finding a weapon mix for my MADs that cannot be better fulfilled by other mechs... what are you guys doing with your MADs?

There's the problem with most people right there. Who cares if another mech does it slightly better. Play what you enjoy, run that weapon combination. For all you know it might work better in that mech for you.
