Hey all,

I'm a longtime Battletech / Mechwarrior player, but this is, I think, my second post in the forums. I know this question has probably already been covered elsewhere, but I can't find the information for the life of me.

I'm considering getting in on a founder's package, but I want to know a few things before I invest. Suppose I buy an elite package and take the Hunchback as my mech, am I going to be excluded from piloting the Jenner, Atlas, and Catapult?

I've read threads about the founders mechs being gimped. Anybody care to clarify?

Thanks,

-A

After you buy Elite, you can still upgrade to legendary and get the other 3.

Not at all. You will just only receive the "Founder" Hunchback. You will still be able to buy, as will anyone in the game, any of the other mechs as well as all the variants of those mechs including variants of the Hunchback. The founder Hunchback will be a Prime Variant of the Hunchback but will come with a custom paintjob/look and the 25% permanent bonus to XP/C-Bills but for all intents and purposes is the same as anyone else's Hunchback that didn't get the founder pack.

Also, founders 'Mechs are not gimped, you can customize them like any other 'Mech.

You will be excluded from the founders versions of those mechs, it doesnt mean you wont be able to buy those down the road. But you will start with only the mech you chose and possibly another one.

Everyone, even non paying folk, can pilot every mech type, you just have to earn the c-bills (or presumably buy with real money) to get the mechs. The founder mechs just have a a 25% earning bonus attached to them.

You won't be excluded; you will just have to buy your own jenner/atlas/catapult out of C-bills rather than starting with them. Also, the founder's mechs have a different paint scheme compared to standard, as well as a 25% C-bill bonus during matches. If you really think you are going to want the other three mechs at some point, I suggest you save up the cash for Legendary so you get the set of four. If on the other hand you have no interest in any of the other mechs then don't bother.
I went legendary because I knew I'd want to use all four mechs; I'm a big fan of all four designs.

Ahhh. Well that makes me feel better about things. For a while I was really quite concerned that four icons of Battletech were going to be restricted to paying customers only.

Thanks for the info, Light.

No you will not be excluded, you will just get the Hunchy for free to start with. The other mechs you can still purchase with C-Bills in the game.

The founders mechs will not be gimped, quite the opposite actually. They will be the prime variants, meaning standard configs, AS7D for atlas, CPT-C1 for the Cat, ect. Your founder's mech will have a slightly different appearance, both the physical shape and paint are specific to founders mechs. They also get a 25% bonus to C-bill earnings and can still be customized fully. there is no downside to the founders mechs.

It would either be the Catapult or the Hunchback for me. I'd take an Awesome over an Atlas so there's no real loss for me there.

You will have to unlock those mech and then you will be able to buy the prime variant. The legendary will have all 4 of those lines already unlocked. I am looking into upgrading after understanding the unlock and XP process involved in getting the other mechs and possible the roles maybe unlocked? I am not for sure on that one but kind of a stab in the dark.

Uh Yeshua, no where at no time in any of the dev posts have they ever said that you have to "unlock" any Mechs. You can buy and drive anything you want from 25 ton Commando to 100 ton Atlas on day one. You will earn special xp in the four weight classes (light, medium, heavy and assault) as you pilot them that unlocks special abilities for all 'Mechs of that class but you do not have to grind your way "up" to heavier 'Mechs.

The presumption is that some situations call for lighter faster ones and others for heavy, slow, more armored ones and that mixed teams will have the best success rate. (That's the theory anyway).

Anyone can get these Mechs, they are not exclusive to pre-orders. It's just that the pre-order versions will have a unique exclusive skin and permanent attached money boost, neither of which will be obtainable once this deal ends. These exclusive permanent effects make Elite and Legendary a very good deal if you plan to put a lot of time into the game come release. Also, Founder Mechs do not eat a garage slot. So if you buy an Atlas later on, it'll eat one of your garage slots. If you have a Founder Atlas, it won't eat a slot. These slots won't be unlimited so you're basically getting a permanent extra slot as Elite or 4 as Legendary. The Founder page fails to mention the permanent bonus slots attached to the Mechs but the Dev posts explained it.(i e Freebie/Veteran player=8 max slots, Elite=9, Legendary=12)

The Prime Variant of all mechs will be available at the start. (At least of those that have been released...) This means that when they release say, a Panther, you will have access to the prime Panther Variant. You can then choose to work your way through the exp you need to unlock another variant of the Panther, but I believe that this may be more specific to EXP you receive for piloting the main Variant. Also, some specialty variants may be available through factions within the game. Like if there is a Variant that is a Fed-Suns build, or a Lio Variant. At least this is what I have gotten from the previous Dev logs.

The Founders Mechs only have a 25% C-Bill increase, plus a little cosmetic variance around the cockpits and a paint-job to make them different from a standard Variant.

4 free mech slots, a C-Bill bonus, and exclusive looking mechs...sounds like a win scenario to me.

Nope

MWO takes place in the year 3049, the Bushwacker was not built until 3053. Maybe in four years.
