its a scout mech as far as i know.
scouting, painting targets for lrm, recon etc etc. wait till electronic warfare maybe?
Ravens are more so electronic warfare, jenners were designed as fast guerrilla fighters. arctic cheetahs follow the same conception as the jenner.
the spider is a light mech, not meant to be a light brawler kill all who oppose one hit wonder

Spider is always going to suffer until role warfare actually means something.
Jenner is always going to be superior just because its heavier and has higher mounts, and even the Urban mech is more offensively versitile then the spider.
You either buff the spider till it tramples on what those other mechs are supposed to do well (just look at what the BJ has done to the medium line,) or actually deepen your game to give its role as a scout and harasser mech some love in this game.

Spiders were some of the tougher Mechs for me to master going through the IS Lights pre-quirks... Locust being the other.
As mentioned, some Mechs are role specific and not meant for a stand-up fight like the Jenner or Firestarter or Artic Cheetah for that matter. Certain Mechs will fill a role specific to what a team needs in the right hands... that why you see most Spiders running around with either 1 or 2 ERLL and poking people while keeping a distance. They run distraction and harassment. That same distraction may pull 2-3 Mechs off the frontline to "deal" with the threat poking them... in turn giving the other team a numbers advantage that should be exploited.

Firestarters, Arctic Cheetahs, sure, tough fight. Jenners, less so. Ravens? I've never lost to a Raven 1v1 in a Spider. I have about 3 days combined pilots time in Spiders, the vast majority in the 5D. It's not really the best mech for dog-fighting other lights. Mine is for hunting assaults.
And for those who keep saying 'It's a scout mech, scout for my LRMs, hurrhurr', do you really think ANYONE is going to drive lights if they keep trying to make them useless for actual fighting? Answer: no they won't.
