Hey guys just built a new pc and im having bad trouble with mwo, low gpu use and i'm just wondering what the fix is

windows 10
i7 5820k
zotac 980ti amp
16gb ddr4
1440p

Its so bad that i have to run in dx9 with aa off and the fps ranges from 15-45 during battles to 45-60 while far away from any action

gpu usage is between 25-60% even when the fps drops below 30

Look around in Hardware: I only have energy just now to tell you "980Ti is plenty big enough to crank the DSR up" …

To start

Control Panel, Power Options - set to High Performance

Nvidia- Power Management Mode - set to Prefer Max Performance

And do you have the 5820K OC any? That is where this game will benefit with a higher CPU speed.

Its embarrasing that we even have to do this in the first place, come on devs pull your fingers out fix the game instead of pumping out mechs.

My cpu is running at 4ghz, i can get it to 4.5 if i really have to but i shouldnt really have to with a 6core.

And i dont see how changing power settings to high performance does anything as i have practically the same settings in balanced mode except minimum cpu usage is 10% instead of 100%. I just dont understand

I have worked out what might be the problem.

My cpu is only using 3 out of 6 cores. why?

Sounds like 3 of your cores are parked. But MWO love CPU speed more than it does the number of cores. The Intel G3258 (dual core) OC will run MWO well, there are a few threads about this already.

Okay guys on closer inspection mwo is using all cores

But the game is still having very low fps drops and gpu is sitting around 30-60% usage constantly.

No changes are helping :(

Core speed over core count wins every day as far as CPUs for gaming go. This has been true since the first dual cores came out, yet people still fall for marketing benchmarks. CryEngine-based games, like MWO, are strictly CPU bound on many rigs. Unfortunately, the high-end i7 you bought is great for multimedia tasks, but not so hot for gaming. You'd want the 6700K with its crazy overclocking potential.

Other than that, MWO's MSAA/TXAA implementations are pretty garbage, and tend to kill framerates. On a high-res monitor, AA can be disabled with limited impact on visual fidelity.

1. OC your CPU if possible.

2. Disable AA, postprocessing, and particles. Those options eat the most frames in MWO.

Source: Using a 4790K with a 390X @2560x1600, have similar issues. Things may improve under DX12, since it disperses driver tasks to all CPU cores, but there is no info on if/when MWO will support DX12. AA may improve if PGI notices CryEngine's built-in SMAA module (providing great AA fidelity/performance ratio).

I'm having the same exact issue. Goose linked me a user.cfg file that enabled all the CPU cores. Doesn't seem to matter much as none of my CPU cores were anywhere near max. I'm running an AMD FX-8350 with a gtx 770 and my GPU is just chugging away at anywhere from 30-50%. There is only ONE thing that has pushed the GPU to 100% and that is by enabling MSAA anti-aliasing. That doesn't really increase my fps any as MSAA is incredibly demanding but at least I was able to get the GPU to 100%.

Here is the link to my forum topic

http://mwomercs.com/...-gpu-usage-low/

I would suggest emailing technical@mwomercs.com and directing it to Bobby Jubraj as I've done this already as well as a few others. The more we push the issue onto them the more likely they are to do something about it. Forum posts won't do much for our cause I don't think.

Simply posting what I have logged a few days ago. I will see about reset to default CPU speed 3.4ghz at a later date.

Aware it is not an AMD cpu, but for comparison, my system, Win10 64bit, i5-3570k OC 4.5ghz, HD 7950/3gig vram oc 900/1275, 8gig ram, 1920x1080, med settings, no AA.

GPU 56% max usage, CPU 75% max spikes but floats around 50% majority of the game. FPS locked at 70, ranging from 55-70fps. Saw it hit a few times in game and on log (Canyon Network).

Edited.

Removed the max fps cap. CPU 88% max, avg 65%, GPU usage max out at 100%, floated around 90%. Reread the log files instead of just eye it, max FPS 175, low 55, for most of game 85-95FPS (Tourmaline) no AA
