Hi,

I dont post very often, but I had a really good time during this event so I wanted to share my positive impressions.

I do not belong to a unit. I usually only have a limited time to play so I typically solo drop in the public queue. Lots of fun, after several years I still am not tired of it.

This weekend I saw the Tukayid 2 event and frankly I wanted some of the rewards. Since I do not always do terribad in the solo queue I decided to drop nothing but CW this weekend. I read lots of posts about how hard it was to solo drop CW, but I wanted to give it a go anyway. I really enjoyed my experience.
I played IS because... well I often roleplay (by myself... kinda like masterbation really) that I am a Davion loyalist. I do have some clan mechs in my mechbays, but I paint them in the pirate scheme and every time I drop I tell myself, "I killed a clanner and stole this mech..."
  • The queue times were acceptable for IS solo queing CW. I waited longer than I usually do in the solo drops. It was noticable, but acceptable. I realize the Queue was more crowded than usual because of the event, but I had a good time for sure.
  • Fighting the Clans was difficult! Wow! I cannot say that it was fun to be curb stomped, but the roleplayer in me kept thinking... "yep, this was what the invasion was like". I think when we started IS had 240 tonnes, then sometime on Saturday we upped to 250 tonnes. I kept thinking "yep, the IS logistics would route more assets and then continue bringing way more tonnes to the fight after the initial invasion". After the drop deck increase I saw more winning matches.
  • Solo Queue I ususally ended up with mostly other PUG players, sometimes with a group of 5 or more from a single unit. I had some great games! I would say that I had about a 60/40 split of losses/wins. All my losses (except for 1) were against premades. All of my wins were against clan PUGS.
Bottom line. I got the rewards I wanted within a reasonable amount of drops. I enjoyed the heck out of CW for the event. I do not imagine that solo drops would be as fast if the Queue was not so crowded. I still do not intend to join a group and participate in that game mode all the time, because I suspect the waits will be longer, but Kudo's to PGI for a fun event that got (from what I saw) lots of participation

Glad you had fun, but would like to help you with your role play.

If you really want to role play Tukayyid you first can't be an IS pilot. The battle was arranged between the Clans and Comstar. Unfortunately PGI has no clue on how to implement Comstar so you will have to stretch your role playing to pretend you are Comstar. And that you have the Comstar mechs. Which we also do not have and which were actually competitive with the clans.

You will also have to pretend that you are fighting Stars instead of lances. PGI couldn't figure out how to drop 10 v 12 (2 stars clans v 3 lances IS/Comstar).

And it could be possible for the clans to be restricted to 50-70% of the IS/Comstar tonnage. The clans had a bidding process where each clan would see who could take the victory with the smallest force. It was a matter of honor to win vs large odds. Gosh, imagine if the clanners role played that!

Oh, and you would only ever see drops against a single clan. The clans were rivals as much with each other as they were outsiders and rarely operated together, especially in the beginning of the invasion. It was a race to see who could reach Terra first which precluded cooperation.

And have you heard of Zellbrigen?

So there you go. When we have Tukayyid 3, 4, 5, 6, etc. you now know what to role play against.

Good suggestion. Comstar are the bad guys right?Posted Image Im no lore expert for sure, so the clan details are welcome. I do remember the days on MSN gaming zone bidding games in the lobby. Wish we had the facility to do that still. Good times

Bad is subjective. Machiavellian for sure. They controlled communications, pitted houses against each other and in some instances provided direct aid, especially to Kurita after the Davion-Steiner alliance. They would be damned if someone other than them held sway in the Inner Sphere.

This is just a small taste of all the wonderful material that PGI could have built their mechanics around. What you see is their envisioning of a game, not a game in a setting with a vast wealth of lore.

<Heavy sigh>

Comstar eventually splits with the Word of Blake splinter group managing to somehow take over the know universe. While the Clan attack was going on ComStar took on a bit of the "good guy" role organizing the IS fight. But then again they invited the Clans into IS when a ComStar scout ship found the clan home worlds thinking that it would be a minor invasion that ComStar could use to shore up unofficial control of the IS nations. So at the start of it, ComStar was a turncoat organization against the IS that it would eventually unite to beat the clans. I am not sure if this was all a planned plot, or if the different authors of the different segments ended up with a ComStar that bounces around like a ping pong ball.

Right. Where's my Turkina?

I didn't have time to play CW till today. Playing as a PUG'er I embraced the Laser-Vomit meta. Weird thing is every game was a win even though my Mad Cats were dog-piled each match. I liked the competition, but the maze maps always seem a little overcompensating. In a way they require Laser Vomit to be OP since if LRMs were any good they would defeat the maze. Too bad for MWO.
