They finally update it!
Looks nice, and there is some fluff to boot!
What do you think?

I think it looks really, really good. It's something they really needed to do before Steam. Back when I started, all you could do to get an idea about the game was search the forums. Then you prayed REAL HARD that the information you just found hasn't been invalidated by some later patch -- you could never really know.

I think that website section is a place where they could add a lot more lore fluff. Basic history of the Inner Sphere, and the great houses. Explain who the players are, and how the clans and the on-going invasion emerged. Get the players' imaginations running. That's something that can alone keep players immersed in the game, even despite possible short-comings in the core gameplay.

Support

Capable of fielding a large amount of missiles, and particularly effective when augmented with targeting modules, Support ‘Mechs are most invaluable when operating at-range.

Optimal Class(es): Heavy and Assault
Firepower: High
Mobility: Low
Armor: Medium

Come on, at least acknowledge the Assasin class. Yknow, the ones that make Assault pilots angry and call for light nerfs.

It looks great to me. Sure some things are not perfect but I'm happy to see they're adding things to help new players.

Looks good and should be helpful to new players that don't know anything about the lore. The Grim Portico map description needs some editing. I think a word or two was left out.

I like that they not only missed 'Aff', 'Qui'aff', and 'Neg' as in-universe terms, but also listed 'GG' as an acronym, rather than an abbreviation.

I have a strange sense of humor.

For a second there, I thought they were going to bring back the idea of role warfare. But it sounds more like the four "Battlefield roles" are just vague descriptions of how different people play the game.

Why aren't medium mechs optimal scouts, by the way? Where does the Shadow Cat fit in here? Kind of feels like they didn't think it through.

Oh well. I guess it's a small step in the right direction. For the first time ever, there's actually a place that kind of explains why the Clans are invading the Inner Sphere, albeit in a very brief and vague manner.

"These 40-55 ton 'Mechs can carry a wide range of weapon systems while still favoring speed over armor."

The Vindicator was chosen as the poster mech for the Mediums? I love my Vindis to death, but I feel like they're one of the most underpowered mediums there are.

While the Great Houses vie for what little remains, an old threat has emerged from deep space to topple the feuding empires and restore absolute order to the Inner Sphere. The Clans are descendants of the Star League Defense Forces, and have returned from a self-imposed exile to claim the Inner Sphere as their own. Tempered by isolation and bred for war, the Clans bear little resemblance to their benevolent Star League progenitors.

I love this bit. The Clans are just as petty and vile as those they seek to subjugate. And it is subjugation, not salvation.

For the most part It looks pretty good

However, my main gripe is that it seems to focus too much on the Clans.
Like, the general impression I get from all the background sections is basically "so, here is some information about the Inner Sphere.... buuuuuut... Clans
-would like to see some more focus on the Inner Sphere

And I would also like to see some more history of the battle tech universe- new players may come for the promise of a giant robot shooter, but what gets people hooked on Battletech is the lore
-specific example: glancing through it, I notice there are several references to the Star League, but I didn't see anything that specifically explained what the Star League WAS
--I probably know Battletech history better than actual history (and I have a bachelors degree in history), so I of course know what the Star League was and who Kerensky is, a new player probably wouldn't
--maybe PGI could make a new tab entitled "history" and copy/paste from Sarna (or not copy/paste if copyright issues)
TL;DR
One of pgis strongest assets is the background and fluff. They need to use it more

So, looking at what they sell the weight classes as:

"The Scout, Brawler, Support and Assault roles represent the pillars of 'Mech combat. Pilots must choose a 'Mech chassis and equip the ideal weapons and equipment for whichever combat role suits them best."

Light: Scout
Medium: Brawler
Heavy: Brawler, Support
Assault: Support, Assault

They're not even trying to get people to play lights or mediums any more, are they? They've just given up and want everyone in heavies and assaults?

Fsck that. My lights aren't scouts.

so, instead you want them to post non canon stuff, like IDK...Lights are supposed ot be your front line Assault Mechs?

For the most part, unless heavier elements were not available, Lights WERE meant primarily to scout. Yes they can and do other things, and some chassis are more oriented toward some roles than others, but on the whole, Lights are not really great support, don't tend to anchor assaults etc.

Looks like you are just looking for a reason to be offended by taking it as those roles are somehow the only viable things each class is capable of, instead of being a "general overview".

Especially when one reads the actual overview of the role
"Whether tracking enemy movements or launching quick and disruptive flank attacks, Scouts should never stop moving. Mobility is the key to success."

But hey, I guess Bradleys, Humvees and DPVs should be considered front line main battle forces?

No you idiot, I want them to give people reasons to play lights and mediums, and I want those reasons to reflect on their game page.

Scouting isn't a role especially suited to light 'mechs; in fact it isn't a role at all. It mostly isn't needed, and in the few situations where it is needed, your weight class makes no difference - an assault's sensor contact is as good as a lights.

I just wish the guys thinking scouting is a role worth playing in MWO would try it for a week or so.

Oh, and good job comparing lights to APCs and IFVs; couldn't have shown your bias better if you tried.

Ah, nice to see your panties in a bunch. By all means, keep up with the personal insults because your personal vision of Lights leading the battle charge is not shared by everyone. Yes, I know, it's so not fair that Lights can't stand toe to toe in front of a HEavy and win. Blah, blah blah.

Also, oddly, (or not, considering) is your complete ignoring of the highlighted section.

Probably because it would shoot down your little tizzy if you actually acknowledged it.

And yes, by bias is revealed... using the proper tool for the proper job. Quaint concept, I know. Because the alternative seems to be that you think Lights are the Main Battle Tanks? Which, to be blunt, would be Idiotic.

Let's see...why do I play Lights or Mediums? To launch disruptive flanking attacks, usually. I play them because they are not lumbering, powerful, yet tactically limited Heavies and Assaults.

Just like it is stated on the game page. Imagine that.
