Just curious to see how many of my fellow forum dwellers are investing in the top tier packs for all 4 unseen mech. Marauder, Warhammer, Rifleman and Archer. For the Collector's Edition pack + Hero mechs, you're getting 5 mechs per chassis (2 of which have a 30% C-bill bonus) with 4 different chassis, for a total of 20 mechs (or 16 unique mechs). The total price is $55 * 4 = 220 dollars. ($13.75 per unique mech)
For the sake of comparison (since I'm an instigator), the Wave 1 Masakari pack provided a total of 3 mechs per chassis, with 8 different chassis. 24 unique mechs for a total of 240 dollars. No hero mechs tho. ($10.00 per unique mech)
Inner Sphere mech packs are usually cheaper. It was $80 for the Mauler pack with 4 variants of 4 different chassis. A total of 16 unique mechs. No hero mechs. ($5 per unique mech)
Since there are so many Unseen mechs left to release, I'm kind of curious to see how long this trend will continue. PGI has said that the high price is to cover potential legal fees in the event of a lawsuit.
I suppose it all depends on the success of their new business model. Maybe this was a one-off thing for the first wave of Unseen, and then the next Unseen mech pack with be a standard deal with 4 mechs for 80 dollars, like Resistance 1 & 2.
personally, I like the new marketing model overall. Buy as much or as little as you want. And usually the early adopter awards more than make it worthwhile. But I do think it needs tuning.
I do feel the Collector par it the only thing out of whack, atm. I think that it needs to have one of 2 things done to make it worthwhile.
1) Reduce the collector addition to 10$. It's giving you a cbill bonus to a mech you already have. That's really it.
2) Make it a 4th variant of the chassis, separate from the basic pack. Mind you, it would then be released without any "specials" as just another variant come time for MC and Cbill releases.
And the Hero portion...$15 I am fine with for Heavies, overall, if I like what I see. But for Mediums and Lights? Ain't no way.
Maybe they need to standardize pricing by weight class on heroes? If heavies are 15$, then make it multiples of 3$? Lights, 7$, Mids, 12$, Hvy-15$ and Assaults 18$ ? IDK... need to do something if they continue with this model as no one in their right mind will pay 15$ for a Hero Wasp.
Maybe the Wasp/Stinger could be released as a 2 Pack, like the Fang and Flame, to make it worth the prices?
And again, the 4 current Unseen packs would take on more value if they had a MadDog like release... buy 4 Top Tier Unseen Classics packs, receive a Top Tier Phoenix Hawk free. If you also bought all the Heroes, receive Phoenix Hawk Hero for free?
