Rifleman is not an icon (and its basically a jagger)
might consider getting the Archer though! (but its insanely expensive with the current CAD/USD exchange rate)

I think you lost your opportunity. All heroes were on sale last week or so.

I like those mechs, but I think I'm good as-is for a long time. Maybe...MAYBE a Bushwacker could persuade me. I think a Cougar could too (only Clan mech I would buy).

As far as the underlying theme of the posts above regarding mech packs "value" and comparison to other purchases...I don't really care. I want this game to succeed. Thus, I am willing to purchase the products PGI is selling to ensure that the game sticks around and hopefully improves. The packs are perhaps "overpriced" but their price point in the abstract is fairly reasonable. Thus, I am willing to purchase them.
What would really be nice is if they would give us an estimated schedule (ala the road map perhaps) of their release so that we could budget in advance for them. But I also get that the "surprise" factor and uncertainty of which mech is next, etc. builds anticipation within the community and thus helps drive sales.

For the sake of comparison (since I'm an instigator), the Wave 1 Masakari pack provided a total of 3 mechs per chassis, with 8 different chassis. 24 unique mechs for a total of 240 dollars. No hero mechs tho. ($10.00 per unique mech)
Inner Sphere mech packs are usually cheaper. It was $80 for the Mauler pack with 4 variants of 4 different chassis. A total of 16 unique mechs. No hero mechs. ($5 per unique mech)
Slightly OT but I ran the numbers on a couple of packs (link in sig to the ones I've published) and they work out between a third and a seventh the cost of buying them as separates (depending on how large a pack you buy) when you factor in all the free stuff.

You do realize that PGI needs money not only to cover legal fees, which may very well come into play with the release of the Archer due to how very closely it resembles its original counterpart...
But they also need money to pay the people that are working, albeit very slowly, to improve the game?
You do realize that if people stopped buying mechs, MC and premium time altogether that PGI would at some point have to close its doors?
Where will you be then? Hmm?
The HBS BT game will not be out for another year at the bare minimum, so this is all we have until then.

Warhammer Collectors + Black Widow
Rifleman Collectors (40K legend killer paint job cost them 15$)
Archer Collectors + Hero (at least that's the intent).
I've wanted to drive these 'mechs since I started playing.
I did every option on Phoenix and still play the 'mechs. Got all of Resistance I and was disappointed by the lower quality, so only did the Wolfhound for Resistance II (and was glad I did).
I'm interested in the Crusader, Phoenix Hawk, Valkyrie, Wasp, & Stinger. Big maybe for the Longbow and Ost-anything. But I doubt I'll do more than Collectors for any of them unless the Hero is outstandingly good.
Somebody has to finance these 'mechs to make sure they get into the HBS game.

Wish i could tell my customer that. Anyway, just because i love mechwarrior does not mean that this is the only game i can spend my money on.

Then they need to learn how to provide content faster.
I look at Elite:Dangerous which has a team of similar size. The progress on that game is astounding compared to MWO.

IIC was previewed and I preordered that, not being happy about the lengthy wait time but accepting it. Several weeks later Marauder pack is revealed, and low and behold it is scheduled to release BEFORE my other preorder.....That sent me into a rage that had myself and several friends stop playing the game on the spot. As I said, some friends even canceled preorders and refuse to come back to the game.
The Unseens should have been a single pack for $80 at the top tier, with all the extra preorder bonuses. But PGI is hurting for money so they figured out that they would make more money to piecemeal these highly sought after mechs.
The other issue I see people frequently complain about is the Quality Control of these releases. Over and over new mechs have poor hitboxes and other issues. While I am very happy with how the balance has improved in the game, there is still a long road ahead and PGI is making progress at a snails pace.
So I am playing the game and enjoying it again, and looking forward to my IIC mechs, but I refuse to support unethical business practices like we witnessed with the Unseen packs.

I bought the top tier Marauder pack, but did not pick up the hero mech. ($40, 4 mechs)
I bought the lower tier Warhammer pack, but did pick up the hero mech. ($35, 4 mechs)
I have not and will not buy the Rifleman pack.
I am undecided on the Archer pack
If offered, I would go all in on the Crusader pack most likely.

Very happy with my Marauders, though, and looking forward to the Warhammers.
Bought the $40 pack for both to get the c-bill bonus. I pretty much only ever pilot c-bill bonus Mechs except when leveling up the required other 2.

What was unethical? What it stated that nothing else would be released prior to the IIC pack? Is selling mech at a higher price than normal unethical? I'm genuinely curious.

Wait...they actually SAID that somewhere? Like...
"We want to make money off these...but there's a decent chance we'll get sued, so we're charging you more."
