I wasn't around when the preorder bonuses were available (took a break for a while). Thinking about dropping the $80 for the top pack then I read all about how I would be missing out on the cosmetic crap (no big deal) but also the 4 extra unique variants plus mech bays (big deal).

I'm sure your preorder bonuses convinced a few people to buy in July rather than December, but I guarantee it's nowhere near the amount of people that looked at what you can no longer get and closed their wallet between Aug 1st and forevermore.

Maybe the genius handling the marketing can ask why Wal Mart doesn't advertise in July what kind of awesome bonus stuff you could have got if you purchased on boxing day. "If you bought this PS4 on boxing day it could have come with 4 extra free games but now you can buy the same PS4 with no extra games for the same price!!!"

Here's some marketing 101 tips from a friendly consumer who has spent way too much on FTP games.

1) Keep your preorder bonuses active for the entire period of time leading up to the release. This will get you more sales rather than turning away potential buyers for the 4 months leading up to release.

2) Keep the preorder bonuses to cosmetic items only. This will get you more sales because people will have a much easier time disregarding some cosmetics they missed out on rather than unique mech variants. Better overall sales for years after release.

3) For heavens sake stop advertising preorder bonuses that are impossible to get now. See my Wal mart example above... I shouldn't even need to say this.

Now that PGI convinced me I'd be an idiot to buy the origins pack now I will just have to see if the game can keep my interest without shiny new mechs until the next preorder packs come... or I might get bored again and miss that preorder window and repeat the cycle until they've lost another player (the kind that doesn't hesitate to spend a lot of money under normal circumstances).

I was almost tempted by some of the resistance mechs, but closed my purse strings tight. As it stands I will probably not be spending anymore money with PGI for the next 6+ months unless something really good comes along. The wait on the IIC's, warhammer and Marauder have been way to long.

Can't wait for this to drop! So excited!

As far as the Hunchback IIC goes, yea it's going to be hot. Some people might switch to lighter UAC's to mitigate this, that might be a good idea. Personally though, I think so long as you are careful to chain fire those AC's, only group firing in really intense fighting, you should be able to deal with heat well. You could always convert the lasers to small to save tonnage for an extra heat sink too, maybe.

The Highlander IIC is a beast though! I think this guy is going to work much like the Executioner, but stronger. I love the EXE, but it just isn't that feasible in the game modes we have currently, and the maps don't really encourage range bracketing, which is something the EXE should excel at. Gonna have a looot of fun piloting the HGN in urban settings :P wish death from above was a thing!

Love the geometry on the Orion IIC! Just feels way more beefier and powerful compared to its IS counterpart, in looks alone! And dat Jenner IIC is gonna be really fun to pilot too, specifically the all-missile variant.

Remove the ghost heat and the boom jager returns. Which may just make it viable against the IIC's Posted Image

which is precisely why ghost heat on AC/20s is staying.

downside for the IIcs is, apart from the Jenner, they're all larger targets. sorta fair though, given the increased firepower.

Hard to compare the two. I find that a UAC20 pairs well with ~6 SPLs or ERSLs. If you catch a target at the right time you can easily unload 80 damage into them, while a boom jager can easily deal 40, but more accurately.

I cant aim straight so Ill take the 80 damage every time.

Im mostly excited for the dual ballistic orion

gonna be dirty with an xl300 and a heaping pile of guns

Never quite understood why other folks haven't taken to the Executioner like I have. It remains among my top mechs for kill:death ratio and damage per match (around 450). They rank just above my Thunderbolts, Marauders and Cheetahs in damage, though the small laser Cheetahs and TDR-9SE have slightly better KDR. MASC is what makes the Exe work for me, that extra agility really helps me get into and out of trouble depending on the situation :) I just don't like brawling in sluggish assaults, and the Highlander doesn't seem like it'll be all that responsive. More firepower doesn't do you much good if you get killed that much more easily.

(Granted, I don't have any Dire Wolves, but I can't stand mechs that slow and I doubt the extra firepower at the expense of mobility would suit my play style anyway.)

re: the EBJ with UAC20 and small lasers, yeah I have been running the UAC20 and 6 ER-smalls lately and enjoying it. I usually prefer UAC10 or dual UAC5 for more range (and less heat), but the it works if you are in the mood for some aggression. The alpha is definitely more scary.

Alex keeps designing the Orions with that nice wide-open cockpit, and they keep cluttering it up with all those support bars...

I was thinking various combinations of LRM5 and SRM4 or SSRM4 may warrant some attention. LRM-only is always something I get mad at teammates for (they are usually the last ones left alive and often complain that we didn't support them enough when we lose). So I don't have much interest in becoming one of them!

Ultimately I probably won't stick with LRM builds, I never do even if they perform OK. I just get too bored.

Indeed the IIC mech pack is a pretty good chassis mixture.
