What GFX card do YOU have? Laptop or desktop? What's the frame rate, resolution and detail settings?
Thanks in advance for the input! (which I am sure will be useful to more than just myself )

you can get a new gs70 with GTX970m that will far surpass MWO needs... i think it would be around 1800.

My GTX 970 didn't show a great deal of improvement over my old card. When I upgraded my cpu from i7 @ 3ghz to I7 @ 4 I gained ~40 fps.

Please do not buy a laptop.. simply put use a desktop for gaming, easier on upgrade cycle (you can actually upgrade and keep it relevant)
Beyond that, toughest nvidia card you can afford and toughest intel CPU and you are good. You'll get the MB and memory good enough on the side.
Oh and as far as monitor goes, AOC 3440x1440 is cheap ultrawide that is just awesome, you'll be stuck with some tiny thing they want you to call a monitor on a laptop.
edit: Oh yeah, additionally you will get much more bang for the buck on a desktop...

i5 cpu at the very least, i7 is really better, this game is rather cpu bound, and that's the engine, not the coding by PGI, CryTek engines have always been cpu bound.
Vcard I'd suggest a GTX 650 or better, the 980s are amazing but pricey, 750s are at a good price and excellent performance, and they'll handle DX12 when it comes along per nVidia.
I was running an old GTX470 nVidia card with my i7 950(original model) and with everything maxed except AA at 1920x1080, I was averaging 50fps. My 470 died so I got a GTX 750, now I average 65fps with the same settings. I could probably get another 10-20fps if I replaced my mb and cpu, but that's really not worthwhile for me since 40fps or higher all seems the same to me, I only notice when it drops below 40, so I see no reason to spend a grand to replace my cpu and mb(because naturally I'd have to also upgrade/max out my ram because).

My laptop has an Nvidia GT640M ... at low settings the game is playable though barely ... probably mid 20's fps with dips to the high teens I would guess.
Laptops are not nearly as upgradeable as desktops ... however, in my experience, many folks don't bother to upgrade their desktops anyway. In addition, new technology often requires new chipsets which require new motherboards or new slot configurations ... so upgrading a desktop is never guaranteed. The main advantages of desktop gaming are the typically more capable video cards, faster processors, faster memory, larger hard drives, and typically somewhat lower price ... as well as a larger screen unless you have an external screen for the laptop.

I think your idea of laptops and their performance is a few years old.
of course they wont compare to a purpose built desktop in gaming performance... but they certainly do more that facebook gaming...MUCH much more.

hmm
I had a laptop last year, i7 4700mq and Radeon 8970m (4GB )
Ran this game at 60 + FPS all the time (max settings, post-AA)!
You can definitely get very good performance out of a gaming laptop, even something with a 860 or 870m will do nicely.
You just pay extra for the laptop-ness, and generally are limited in upgrade options.
To the OP, definitely invest in a cooling pad if you're going to be gaming on that laptop! You can get a decent one for 20-30$. Also, Sager makes very nice gaming laptops that don't look too gaudy

With money you can get a good gaming laptop, however they certainly will not upgrade and the value for money is not as good as desktop machine. if you need a laptop for the "on the go", buy a cheap one that does all on the go work and a gaming desktop system.
At least I would never go solely on laptop for gaming, my current system had its GPU upgraded and it's been more than decent and will continue to be so (CPU's haven't leapt forward as quickly as GPUs... so generally you can keep pace with one or two upgrades.. actually I might be OK for quite some time just to get the new high end GPU)

I'm fully aware Desktop is better bang for the buck and much more flexible (I have built several over the years out of individually ordered parts... yes, I've no qualms or issues doing so). I might get one to replace my old desktop later. But right now, it's laptop time.

Fair enough, I bow out as not knowing enough of gaming laptops beyond that for me they cost too much and give too little. Then again, they do have their use cases for some.
Now I'd love to upgrade to the new titan 980, get some horsepower to fuel my new screen

I fully understand you. Being constantly on the go, a desktop is simply not an option for me (despite the significant advantages)
Anything equal or more than gtx 860m will do just fine... also how much you gonna spend is an important factor too when it comes to final decision.
try to get a GTX 970m if you can... that thing gives you near desktop level performance.
