I already know several players who are looking to play house warriors, instead of creating/joining a merc company just so they can play an imitation house unit. so what I want to know is how many others there?

the idea is simple. we serve the dragon. we are players who love kuritas/Draconis Combine for whatever reasons, we may want to play actual cannon unit, we may just not be interested in joining a merc unit to recreate a house unit, we may not be looking for a formal command structure, but just want to play with friends...everyone has their own reason, so we wait to see what the devs offer for house units, and we play as house kurita. but in the end there should be hundreds to a thousand or so players who wish to play kurita that are not active in these forums and not forming private units.

command structure? it will quickly become apparent in the gameplay who makes for a good leader and who just recruits people well. those leaders will become the chu-is and tai-i regardless of the rank-stats that is earned in the game. there just is not a way to apply stats to leadership qualities.

play style: this varies from person to person, so individual players will end up migrating to other players with the same style of play. it is just human nature.

unit concept? my guess is that if the devs give us a provision for just playing a house unit, we will have one of the regulars. Dieron, Pesht, Benjamin, Galedon... it doesn't really matter. we are the regular units. our skills vary from green recruit to elite pilot. if a more prestigious unit opens up in game play and the devs offer us "promotion" to the Sword of Light, the Genyosha, we can decide if we want to populate the new unit, but a unit name is not as important as our service to kurita and our playing with our friends (both new and old)

I for one, after talking to a few others, would like to know who would like to play just a house regular unit as the devs create it. I figure worst case scenario, we can fall back on creating or joining merc units who are playing house units.

it should be noted this is not the formation of another unit... I am not trying to recruit anyone... though it does give the possibility of finding other players with similar ideas and the ability to build friendships with those we are discussing the idea with, which in turn will lead to groups of players who will try to play together when the game starts.

I remember reading in one of the Dev blog's or Q and A's that they are looking into adding sub units that you can form with your friends under a house banner. Not in for launch but a higher priority. Unfortunately I cant seem to find the link off hand. Hopefully some one knows where it was.

Found it. Dev q and a number 2 [BRYAN] As part of ranking up players will be able to join faction units. Post launch we will support the ability for players to create their own faction units."

I have started a "unit recruiting" thread at housekurita.org where if you are going to play,
a House Warrior, we can list handle, timezone, unit we would like to start in, play style,
so HK has a 'sorta' roster
It is Here: http://www.housekuri...t=43&p=234#p234

I have a "Basic" timezone converter here: http://www.housekuri...y/miscellaneous

Note: you will be required to sign up at housekurita.org to POST your into

So I'm a bit confused. The merc corps mechanic will work different from the factions? As in, if i want to fight for the draconis combine and not a merc corp, there are no player created groups to join? Instead there will be groups created by the game?

It is a little spotty right now but the basic information is that you will play for Kurita, You will earn rank and the privilege of joining known canon units. To be honest it will not matter what unit you are officially assigned to, you will still be able to drop with other Kurita players so unofficially you could be part of a "guild" while in game you could be part of one of the Dieron Regulars units. Someone correct me if I have read the information wrong but the House players can still band with friends for combat but not be in the same "unit". Of course if the house unit tree is available to all then friends could technically follow the same path and be in the same canon units. Interesting social aspect to the game. I look forward to seeing how it is implemented.

As I understand it from reading the Dev-Posts on the strategic metagame, if you win as part of a merc corp, the other players in that merc. corp get the benefits. If you win as a House pilot, other pilots from that House get the benefits. So I'll play as a Kuritan, rather than as part of a merc. corp named after a Kuritan unit, because I want to do my bit for the Dragon, not just for my team. Anyway, since that aspect of the game has been nerfed until "post-launch", there's plenty of time for the devs to reveal the pros & cons.

Argh! Overlong sentences! :)

Also, there's the question of starting mechs. I remember reading an announcement some time ago that your faction, preferred role & weight category defined what your free 1st mech is. If that's still the case on Aug.7th, then choosing between House player or Merc might very well change the mech you receive. Let's face it, nobody wants to be fobbed off with a Jaegermech when they've set their heart on the Catapult-K2.

Remember, they also said that Merc companies can gain favor with a house, so a lot of units that wish to have some sort of player-run organization are simply planning to do pure House Kurita missions. Hopefully the devs will implement the ability to have Merc units become "House" Mercs.

Trust a Marik to make a post that has nothing to do with the actual topic. Democracy didn't really work for them; its just a lot of crazy shouting.

I'm anticipating pleasing results from this program, although the whole unit/ canon unit selection order mechanic is still a little fuzzy for me.
