It's just my opinion, but HOLY CROP CIRCLES BATMAN, I hope no one buys these at the prices they are asking. Keep in mind they are "20% off" too.

Yes, I suppose that they are special Steam releases, but for the most part anyone can buy these for c-bills these days and I think it's a real rip-off of the un-experienced new players.

Personally I was hoping to see some screaming good deals to attract the noobs, but this seems more of a cash grab on the unsuspecting and gullible.

I'm torn between thinking "Well, it's not my money" and feeling bad for the new players, "Way to PGI, PGI". In the end I'm underwhelmed and feeling that this will hurt new player retention, but then again;

These were up in the gift store a couple weeks ago and I was one of many that raised holy hell.

Not the first impression we want to give steam users, thats for ******* sure.

Seem to be in line with what we have had for years ~$10-15 a mech. Only difference is they are using steams regional pricing so some won't have to pay in US dollars anymore.

No you can't just buy these with Cbills, (S) variant. Going to look at the specs but might buy the light pack just for the Raven-3L(S) with 30% cb boost.

Now count the cost of the Mech bay, patterns/colors, premium time, and MC.

If I may; Its cheaper than buying them as separates with MC
Using the medium as an example If you bought the items with the MC 12000 ($49.95) pack the separates would be
Hunchback - $5.99
Stormcrow - $18.52
2 Bays - $2.50
2 Patterns and 6 Colours - $13.10
30 Days - $10.41
3.5 mill CBills - $9.99
2000 MC - $8.40

So around $68.91 for the lot al-a-carte (technically more, as you would have to either top up on less efficient packs or spend $99.99 on the 25000 set)

Obviously that doesn't answer "is it worth the cash", as that's personal opinion, but as a package on a like-for-like basis it's not that bad a discount (in fact most of the packages are at quite a discount)

Figures from the thread in my sig file.

yup, you can't buy that with cbills, and I would love to knock down another 30% with one of my favorite mechs.

so, other than the thing that you can't get anywhere other than in this pack, it's perfectly ordinary and just like the thing you can buy with CBills

gotcha

Did you guys miss "not refundable" in the listing?

It's like major red flags to anyone not invested in this game.

They have the chance with the steam launch to finally kill one of the major gripes from customers, their pricing strategy. And they do the exact opposite.....

Technically you are correct, but the reality is that these are very much the same mechs as you can get for c-bills just with a bit extra, and they aren't a screaming deal that will, or should I say SHOULD, attract new players long term.

Similar to my Altas D (F), or my Timberwolf Prime (I), yes. Same as the C-bill version in all ways except that it has a 30% cbill boost.

The boost is nice, but isn't make or break.

It's pretty harsh, I'll agree with that. It could stand to be 5 to 8 dollars cheaper across the board, I think. However, since when was anything in MWO "affordable"? lol

Just go over the numbers on the light pack.
=====
2 Mech Bays - 600 MC
2 Unlocked Patterns - 1,500 MC
3 Colors - 1,500 MC
The Raven 3L - 2,350 MC
The Arctic Cheater Prime - 3,095 MC
1,500 MC Injection - 1,500 MC
2,500,000 C-Bill Injection - 1,650 MC
30 Days Premium - 2,500 MC
=====
That's a total of 14,695 MC, or close to $60.00 (@ apx. 242MC/1$)

Again, let me emphasize that some of the things bought in the game store are pretty overpriced if you look at the dollar-to-point values even on the highest end of the scale, but some of the things (like the bays) can be written off as free or diminutive for the sake of the pack and the fact that they usually come standard anyways. We'll write off the C-Bill bonus too, and for good measure even the lesser of the two mechs.

That still leaves us with a hypothetical value of 10,095 MC, or roughly $44 dollars. The Light pack goes for $30 and is on sale for $24. In theory, you'd be saving $14.00, up to 20 if you were a newseal trying to jump on the deal.

TLDR: The prices are high, but that is a fault of the entire game's microtransaction economy, not of the Steam packages. They're still on par with Mastery packs and such.

Edit: Also bear in mind these were probably made to substantially increase the XP and income curve of the new Steamlets so that they aren't getting clubbed for any longer than they should have to.

You are arguing the wrong fact. I'm not arguing that they are a bad value IF you value things like colours and patterns as much as they are worth in MC (I don't, think they are overpriced, especially camo).

I'm arguing, that to a BRAND NEW STEAM PLAYER, seeing "DLC" content for $30 as the cheapest option on a free to play game is going to scare a lot of them off.

Simple solution, don't buy sh*t from Steam.

Who sets pricing on Steam, Steam or PGI?

Direct all anger there.
