So I stopped playing early in 2014 and am just coming back now and have a few questions.

1. What has changed with the game since may last year?

2. Are any of the mechs I have good in the current meta of the game?

Jenner JR7-F
Catapult CPLT-C4
Atlas AS7-D-DC
Cataphract CTF-4X

3. I have
1055 GXP
210 MC
410,062 Cbills
Can I do much with any of that?

4. How is the ping like from Australia?

1) a lot, Clans are in, but are not seriously overpowered, the UI is much better that the early UI2.0 you would have last seen, IGP are gone, PGI is now there own publisher, things have improved since IGP left, lots of improvements, Mechs have quirks, CW is in.

2) the game was re-balanced about a week ago, I am not sure if a new metta has emerged yet, but with many new players from the recent steam release all your current Mechs should be ok.

3) sorry but no, you have enough MC for a cockpit item or 2 one use camo paterns, your Cbills could swop a few weapons on one Mech, your GXP could unlock a level1 weapon module, but you cannot afford to purchase the module

4) there are now regional servers, including one for the oceanic region so on the oceanic server your ping should be a lot better than it was before, however the US server should be the same as you were used to, and the EU server may be worse, you can chose which server(s) you want to use, but the oceanic region is apparently the lowest population so you may be waiting a while for games if you only select the OC server

4.Oceanic servers are located in Singapore, not sure, but the connection should be better than to the us servers.
Also I don't how the population is there on "asian primetime".

To select region, press the small down arrow next to the quick play button. CW is only played on the NA servers.

I suggest giving the new trial mechs with (C) a try. They are all customized and not as horrible as the old stock trials. :)

Atlases just got some major buffs to internal structure, making them officially the toughest mechs in the game.

The jenner is as good as it has ever been. Somewhat outshone by the firestarter, but it's lower profile can help it survive better.

I don't know much about the catapult or cataphract, other than that they are not very common. Not to say they are bad, just not used very often.

A LOT. With the Clan invasion came the 'Laser Vomit' meta. PGI is still trying to get that under control. For now, Clan ERMLs are the absolute shizz. Also, combining them OR Clan ERLL with Gauss is pretty effective. LRMs are trying to make a comeback, but so far not getting there. Up-close, the SRM6 is still the king of the brawl. Oh, and beware King Crabs bearing twin AC/20s. Quirks got out of hand, and to some extent they still ARE, but they're calming back down a bit. And ECM got smacked in the chops by the nerf bat.

Meh. Not much, really. That Jenner ain't half bad, though it's still outclassed by the Firestarter and Arctic Cheetah. As missile Catapults go, you have the right one; build it for SPLAT. The D-DC is just too big and slow and magnetically attractive to enemy fire, really. And that's a tragic Cataphract to have (the -3D was always the 'good' one, and now the -0X is the ECM-capable one).

At the risk of sounding like an @$$, let me say this: "That and a Dollar will get you a cup of coffee." Wait for a double conversion weekend, and put that MC toward converting XP to GXP toward unlocking weapon modules. That's not much for C-Bills, either. Won't buy a mech, and will only just buy a single upgrade (Endo, Ferro, DHS) to one. Might as well save up, grind on the mechs you have right now, and invest in something better.

AWFUL, last I heard. That is, to the European or NA servers. Y'all have a separate 'Oceanic' server now, and I'm told that the ping from places like Melbourne and Sydney and Brisbane is pretty good. But you're still looking at 250-300+ to the NA servers.

Best advice: Grind on the mechs you have until you can afford something truly good. The meta-game may have changed, but the game hasn't changed in its basics. You probably know your mechs well enough, once you knock the dust off of 'em. Do that. Then, depending on what you like, go buy either:

Firestarter (IS light)
Arctic Cheetah (Clan light)
Storm Crow (Clan medium)
Ebon Jaguar or Timber Wolf (Clan heavy)
Thunderbolt (IS heavy)
Dire Wolf (Clan assault)
or Stalker (IS assault)

Or MAYBE even the Blackjack Mastery Pack, if you're so inclined (and don't care for missiles).

And be sure to check out the Marauder, Warhammer, and Rifleman, if you're a classic TT BattleTech fan (and I suspect you are).

WELCOME BACK!

Cataphracts as meta have passed, however as a weapons platform Cataphract 4X has very few machines in the way of competition. The lack of potential speed for the 4X sort of limits you to escorting and fire support roles. Brawling too if you plan on fighting slower enemies.

Biggest changes are that maps generally got bigger. 12 versus 12 makes things harder...and seemingly less tactical. Clans are out, so be careful. Quirks...though ironically that system's gonna get more dropped than not now that information warfare is around some sort of corner...half past another corner...

Good luck.

Catapults recently got two different hitbox changes. They should be considerably different in terms of abuse taking ability. Focus armor more on the front.

Also: With an artificially produced ping of over 2,000 I found the game to still be playable (unlike in the past). Issue does exist where patience is needed but shooting at the enemy does net hits (unlike before HSR).

(Mass downloading while playing.)
