Let's get this part out of the way:
Windows 7 x64 Home Edition
Avast Antivirus
i5-2400
12GB RAM
240GB SSD <-- MWO installed in default location on this, which is the C: drive
2nd 1TB HDD
3rd 2TB HDD
MSI GTX970 running latest card BIOS and latest Nvidia driver plus reinstalled the driver with clean install option and without 3D vision and without Geforce Experience
Dual monitors with HDMI main, DVI (digital version) 2nd monitor, both 1920x1080
I play the game in Windowed mode to allow for alt-tabbing
Every since a day or two ago I absolutely cannot play more than 1 game. If I launch netflix or watch a youtube video on monitor 2, I can usually launch the game but it freeze frames on the loading screen when I join a game. I can even hear in game chat but nothing renders. If I don't run netflix or youtube, I can play 3 or 4 games and then it starts to lock/freeze frame on either the loading screen after a game or the loading screen entering a game.
I tried the MWO repair tool and it stalls out forever on cleaning shaders or resetting shaders or whatever. It will not complete and sort of crashes if I eventually try to close it.
Anyone know how to fix this or are having the same problem? My friend is actually having the same problem in his brand new installation of MWO.

Yeah, there's a group of us having the issue.
Seems the issue is the 'lookupdata.bin' file inside the Shaders folder, try to edit that after a crash, Windows Explorer freezes. Coincidently, as you say, exactly what the Repair Tool freezes on.
Only way to run MWO again, from what I've experienced, is to restart your whole system. Doing that also allows you to touch 'lookupdata.bin'
Also MUCH less stable than it was prior to last patch. Longest run I've had was 40 minutes, normally just a PUG match or two, before either freezing in game, or loading to or from Mechlab.

Unfortunately...that file isn't human readable.
Not that it would help...
I hope for a fix this Tuesday, as some people have contacted Support, but no clear answer yet.

Do you know if your card is dropping out of it's 3D clocks?
Is you Windows power profile set to HiPro?

So, you know when the problem started. Check for changes from that date forward. Driver updates, new software installs, fresh downloads, etc. Odds are it is something new in the past few days that's causing it.

All power settings were customized to be high on this desktop. Also the GTX970 does obsessively downclock at inopportune times but I locked it into one single speed with Afterburner and the MSI Gaming Tool and it didn't make a difference. After deleting the entirety of the contents of C:\Users\Peter\Saved Games\MechWarrior Online\Shaders\Cache in safe mode, it didn't make an ounce of difference after the next freeze up. They REALLY need to fix this.

Avast Antivirus
Turns out this is the issue.
Try disabling it (right click, "Avast shields control", disable until restart), and try playing for a session.
Got me 2 hours of Shooty Stompy Robots without crashing. Thanks to Krivvan for pointing it out.
