Droll all you want but its basically just an IS Mad Dog. The side torso hitboxes will be huge and the arms wont be able to shield all that well. Don't expect to brawl in it, buy for LRM pleasure only

If they do missile doors it'll have 10% damage reduction in the side torsos at least :P But yeah we all know it's an IS Mad Dog. In the lore, the Mad Dog is a descendant of the Archer (via the Lupus Omnimech). That doesn't mean it's not literally a classic.

I am looking at R9 270x or R7 370 nitro OC 4GB DDR5(probably this one tho) or any NVidia graph card in same price tag...dicisions decisions

I picked up a Radeon R9 390 (8 GB) when I rebuilt my system this fall. Pricey (I got mine for $280 on sale), but I have yet to find a game that I can't run at max settings...

I bought the Marauder pack, and there was one other classic mech I was unlikely to be able to resist...and here it is!

Holy Norse Gods Almighty! I thought the Tempest was going to be the Hero mech, but I'm still surprised they did it!

I actually expect energy options to be very interesting for it (Both the 2R and Tempest have 6E), with CT 2E being fairly high up and the others in the arms. The 5S at least has 4. The Mad Dog maxes at 5 with no CT weapons. The Archer can be played like a zombie if you twist with it right which is how you brawl in a Crab (which also has a big CT that stretches forward).

That said like someone else said The Mad Dog was designed form the Archer. Like the Timbie was built from the Marauder and Catapult.

Every time I see one of these older mechs it takes me back to the begining. Before Battletech/Mechwarrior (or Robotech) existed. I grew up on this stuff, which is also why I love Battletech/Mechwarrior....

Enjoy

Omg! I want this mech! But my problem is I want all of them! Lol

Although I have refrained and haven't gotten any since resistance 2. I realized that I've been spending more money on this game than on years of subscription based games. I don't mind as long as I have the extra cash because I like supporting this game. But to be honest I'm starting to feel like PGI is Nicole and diming. Then again I don't have to buy anything to play, so I guess I'm doing it to myself! Lol

I do like that you are buying single chassis versus one in each weight class. Seems like you will get more play value out of that. Although I will say instead of just being able to test out trial mechs it would be cool if you could take any mech into the testing grounds. Just moving around in a stock mech would help me a lot when deciding which mech to het with cbills. Not really applicable for these kind of purchases so I should have saved this for the suggestion forum.

Still this seems like a very cool mech!

Um, Dassh, The Archer has always had it's cockpit down low, the later TRO's got it wrong.
Quote from Sarna "The most unique feature of the Archer compared to other humanoid 'Mechs was its cockpit placement, located beneath the central torso. Although giving the MechWarrior a unique battlefield perspective, this placement didn't give provide any additional protection compared to other 'Mechs as the torso armor belt was above the cockpit, shielding the Gyro and engine from enemy fire." (3025 and 3039)

...soooo....the catapult is obsolete now? More missile hard-points, ecm hero, better hit-boxes. Heck, even the stock load-out is better! Archer power-creep ftw!

No, not at all. Actually the low cockpit what later TROs got wrong.

But ok:

I already posted the 3rd edition miniatures but let's go back to Battledroids (so "Battletech" 1st ed.). Here's the Archer:

So, Where is the cockpit? And before this no Battltech/Mechwarrior existed.

But Archer in an unseen with a reason, it is originally a Macross thing. So you can just check the cool videos what ThatGuy539 was so kind to link, you will find the "very original" Archer in minutes (like first vid, 0:45). With a cockpit on top...

The original Robotech Destroid Spartan the Archer artwork came from had the cockpit up top, like the early metal models. By the time of TR3025, they had decided to move the cockpit to the 'nose' and have (mostly) kept it there ever since.

All these mechs are nice and all ...but what about some weapons...MW4 Mercs had a lot of weapons for some interesting game play.
I want some Inferno Rockets....Inferno Missiles....Long Toms.....come on man...GUNS GUNS GUNS..

Also a 16 Weapon Atlas walking the field would bring fear...to the enemy.
Don't forget to get something done with the Unit Coffers.

first of all, an Atlas currently is to be feared. my AS7-S mounts foru med pulse, four SRM6s and an AC20, and can and has tanked fire from an entire company.

secondly, the unit coffer stuff is coming with Community Warfare Phase 3. thirdly, a lot of that weapons tech you want is either one-shot Periphery tech (Rocket lauchers are single shot), or Full IS Tech II, which we've still to get (like Swarm LRMs). so just wait.

and thirdly, we're never going to have a mech PERIOD with 16 hardpoints, so stop asking. if i recall there's maybe ONE IS mech that even has ten. even a Direwolf can only have.. what... 14 at most, and even it wouldn't be able to actually effectively use any of it.

The Marauder . . . the Warhammer . . . the Rifleman . . . and now the Archer. Since my days of playing the tabletop BattleTech game, I have dreamed of these things. My first MWO mech was a Griffin, because that was my very first ride ever in BattleTech. I feel a great sense of completeness.

Now bring me the Assassin, Clint, Whitworth, and Cyclops and my mech bays wiil be happy and full. For some of us it isn't the "meta," it isn't the technical specs of MWO mechs or how munch we can make them, it's strapping on the beloved icons of the glorious early years of BattleTech and wreaking havoc upon the enemy.
