MWO is a game, you can drop in, play some games, make some money, call it a day.

EVE is your other life in space. You only get out of it what you put into it, and it demands quite a lot.

So much this.

For me, an EVE subscription is a monthly fee to stare at beautiful space ships.

Eve online is monthly pay. No thanks. Try Elite Dangerous instead.

I wish MWO was subscription based. Then they'd fix the game instead of having to release mech packs for money.

I watched a bunch of reviews for Elite Dangerous. I hate PvE and it seems to have a lot of issues with multiplayer. I'm going to give War Thunder another shot.

A sub would be so much cheaper. I don't know how anyone can enjoy MWO without injecting a hundred buck a month for the first year.

I've got over 400 hours in Elite online in Open mode. Plenty of content. The players are my fun. The only reason I'm not playing it right now is my thumb is messed up from operating my hat switches.

I used to play Eve. I quit when I realized the only way I was "playing it" was by logging in, starting training on the next skill, then logging off.

I usd to play EVE Online a few years back, was involved in the War for Fountain which was pretty cool...

But then I just felt like CCP lost their way. Started catering to only one part of the playerbase. I ended up logging in, starting a skill, and then logging out. I found I had more money than I knew what to do with and would buy the most expensive battleships with T2 and run them into hostile territory just because I could. Hadn't even paid cash for a sub in a while.

Then they released DUST514, lied to their player base, stole thousands off their players and then scrapped the game. Glad I got a refund for every single penny I spent on that.

Don't know if it's because I ran out of things to do, I got bored of the game or if I just got sick of CCP... shame too. I used to enjoy that game. Now it seems CCP are a slowly sinking ship, selling off their assets in WhiteWolf and anything else just to prop up a game that, I honestly think Star Cit\Elite will end. I don't know if that's a shame or not.

Get ready to see a lot of people like me. SO many of us bitter-vets out there.

I tried to get into Eve once or twice. First time not much success. The second time they had recently improved their tutorial missions or whatever it was. And it went a good way toward explaining the basic mechanics. Probably would have kept play if it were free. But since I wasn't interested in another monthly bill, I just stopped.

One of the things about MWO. I can just take a break whenever and come back at the drop of a hat. Right now I'm enjoying working with the Crab.

Can I hazz your stuff? In EvE?

I have two accounts that I log into occasionally but haven't "played" in over a year. Had a lot of fun in that game, but with each "improvement" I found the game less unique and more trite. So much untapped potential in that game.

I played EVE for quite sometime. You think the grind is bad on MWO? Wait until you log in and wait a month, then more than a month just to grind a single skill.

Well OP good luck with EVE I played for 4 years great game for PVE and mining etc. But it lacks that WOT/WarThunder pvp that I enjoy and when PVP became a gank festival 24/7 I said good bye.

I'm a old guard MechWarrior Battletech player for MW1 ,MW2 ,MW3 , MW4 most wont remember the Golden Glory days of this IP and most really don't care. MWO started out great but it was soon apparent it was not going to be a simulator , tactical MechWarrior Battletech game but a simple FPS.

I have tried so many moba/Esport games most are over run by Asian farmers and boters EVE has a lot of boters farming mining. I really hatted to see MWO go down this path it is hard to turn a game back around to something that is fun challenging not boring and repetitive when you make it a simple FPS MOBA with minimal viable game play.

Wish you well I myself play MWO a few times a month its not the worst game out there it just gets boring fast and you need long breaks from the boring repetitive game play with no social attachments to anchor you to it.

I heard Elite could only have 24 people, or something like that, in an "instance" at a time, and when people were losing a fight they'd just disconnect their internet and be safe..... That blows.

I'm only a month in to Eve and I can see what you're talking about. I hear that one corp controls all of nullsec. Plus, you can't find good fights, it's always a mob vs a little group, it's worse steamrolling than mwo.

It's 32, and if you attempt to log out during combat there's a 15 second cool-down where you can't control your ship, rendering you helpless while you get tanked. A sitting duck can be easily wasted in 15 seconds.

For you discussing Eve, give Elite a try. I bet you'll have way more fun actually flying your ship. I've played both, and if you want something that has a lot of what Eve does, but doesn't require you to sign your soul away, and also allows you to just hop on and play for 20 minutes really quick if you want, give it a go. It's on sale all the time on Steam. It was 14.85 a week ago. Worth it.

If you know what you are doing, and have some friends who play, or join a good corp, you have to pay for one month at most.

The rest is all free.

Normally in this type of game one pays per month to play. Eve uses PLEX a 'Pilot License Extension.'

https://eve-central....ml?typeid=29668

Using in-game currency Interstellar Kredit (ISK), you can actually buy PLEX, at only the cost of time. One simply needs to generate the in-game capitol through whatever various methods to do so.

Playing the market is one of the many ways.

Also, because PLEX is a physical object in the universe that needs to be shipped to people, things like this can happen. http://www.engadget....h-of-game-time/

I would also like this.

After all this time, I don't really understand why having a subscription has become verboten for online games. I assume it's a hangover from MMORPGs trying (and failing) to compete with World of Warcraft -- that whole "I'm not paying *two* subscriptions" thing -- but I'd have thought that the regular income from monthly subs would be quite a nice thing for a company.

Then again, what do I know :P

the problem is when you have a subscription based game people feel forced to play or their "money runs out" And if you are a casual and you play many onlinegames depending on in what mood you are, you would have to pay 4-5 subs per month, which no one does. Also many people feel, like "losing" their invested money if they don't keep paying and palying for the game they play. WoW, was rather lonely back then in terms of ql of gameplay, Thats why it worked. Most asia grinder f2p's are horribly boring, no one would pay 2 grind so they basically have to be free.
Also, f2p with shop is very juicy, because most games have a few crazy gamers putting thousends of dollars in them.
