Fix the mutilated mech skill trees.
Remove ghost heat
Remove pinpoint convergence
Fix collisions
Fix Hoverjets ®
Remove voting either altogether, or put it back the way it was with hard mode selection. Where are the "new" modes this was supposed to bring? Yeah, I know "Soon" ®
Melee combat. Although I shudder to think how PGI would implement such. I want to punch a clammer in the face, and kick a light like a soccer ball.

1 - ECM fix (maybe entire infotech implementation, but the ECM portion of it needs to go live).
2 - 4v4. Maybe change Quick Play back to 8v8, too.
3 - Stalker dynamic weapon geometry.
4 - Mech scale rework.
5 - Skill Tree rework.
6 - MG, Flamer, and LB-AC fixes. SRM ammo to 120/ton.
7 - Map reworks (more trees getting knocked over - especially Emerald Taiga).
8 - Javelin and Bushwacker!
There are plenty more, of course, but the above are what I'd like to see soonest.

TTK still needs to increase. Ultimately, this will mean a hard nerf to the long range, pin-point laser meta. I support the idea of getting rid of "optimal" range and use linear damage fall off instead.
Pace of Game: A "thinking man's shooter" could benefit by reducing game pace a bit. TTK is part of this but so too are other tactical/strategic components like mine layers, defensive positions, game modes with sequential, even fluid, objectives...
Map Dynamism: No, I don't mean destructible terrain. I mean tight drops, variable drop points, variable base and resource locations. Variable exclusion zones, releasable exclusion zones. With out these, new games modes will be mostly variations on Skirmquest, Skirmsault and Skirmish.
If making new maps is expensive for PGI, then getting the most of out them should be high priority. This means making full use of the engine. Maps much larger than the needed play area could have a set of different OOB overlays. Maps could have pluggable section replacement. Dropping teams together rather than spreading them three kilometers avoids the useless rendezvous phase. Varying drop and base points changes approach and contact angles. You can't "rush" an enemy base if you don't know where it is at game start. Scout bonus for locating it!
Ideas just tumble out once your maps are not hard-coded static "modes."
EDIT add:
MatchMaker. Russ said it has improved, but I don't see it much. Lopsided open play games are still unforgivably common. It should not be difficult to value a queued mech based on its ~fully known~ build out. A pilot multiplier - to apply to the calculated BV - is trickier but there are ways other than tiers and ELO.

- for the love of god high res textures (can't stand that Russ was worried about install size of all things)
- if Russ loves oculus so much they have to rework the hud a bit anyway, so why not try to give it a fps boost while at it
- customization options for mechs (special mechs should come with custom geo anyway, it's a selling point)
- maybe some new paints I could get excited about (something metallic, hell used and rusty seems always in demand from players)
- giving out unique things sometimes, especially with combo purchases (like all the unseen, wave 1 through 3, ...), only eye candy though, my fairy and the alienware heads are still my most prized possessions

- Solaris
- campaign
- for people stop asking Russ in townhalls when mech xxx appears or when will we see balance yyy when people should push for difficult answers
I'd love me a Mad Cat MKII, even in gold (actually prefer silver/chrome), but man I'd rather have some high res textures and no things popping in on maps that small

The ability to choose camos before the map something like:
you either choose your own set camo for the mech,
the map comes with a default kinda hard to see camo,
choose a camo/preset from your inventory

What we need is more game modes, we dont even have to think of any new ones there is plenty of different game modes out there in all sorts of online multiplayer games.

- Game modes that have actual significant differences and objectives.
- Class distinction/roles warfare
- Purpose for command structure
- Actual skill tree
- Less brutal options for small groups (especially for teaching new players how to play)
- Fix weapons that are useless (flamers, mg, lbx) and improve less desirable weapons.
- CW that has a point.
- Some sort of R&R or economic system that makes the game make sense again.
- Collision
- Proper heat scale.
- Coop/single player missions
- PSR that is more representative of skill and not XP.
- Better micro transaction plan that doesn't make you feel like a sucker if you actually pay for something. While this is a universal issue, I think the colors and patterns are the worst offenders. The goal should be that every players buys and is happy having paid for every pattern and color, not that the hardcore/wealthy players buy this and that over time as they can justify it to their significant other. A player's satisfaction and excitement with their mech herd ought to be a marketing tool. Things nobody has ever said about the current system: "Wow, that pattern is a great deal!"
Those are a few things that I think would make the biggest impact. I'm sure I missed some, but I'm tired so I use that as my excuse to edit later.

Oh, you want to equip a Nova with 12 Lasers and 8 DHS? Have fun. Just be sure to place them EXACTLY in their empty Crit slot, or you'll override the slot.
Used to be so much faster...

2) Fix bugs and/or polish the game more (mostly quality of life things) - such as refining movement archetypes, fixing invisible environmental hitboxes on maps, being able to designate a new group leader (instead of handing it off to the next random person in line), command rose, company command that can actually issue commands to ALL lances (and not just do the same command 3 freaking times)... pretty much a lot of stuff
3) Send our balance master away
I'll settle for #2, but #1+3 are pretty damn good options.
