[Ice Bones]

I'm looking to buy a headset for teamspeak, but I don't want to break the bank. I'm not looking for anything high-end or even mid-range, just something decent that I won't regret buying in a month. Ideally, i would like to spend no more than about $25-$35. I know this is greatly limiting my options, but I don't have a lot to spend. If anyone could make any recommendations for this price range, i would greatly appreciate it. This is the one peripheral that I'm pretty clueless about buying.

I didn't even know that Circumaural was a word until now...


I'll keep that in mind if I get in the market for a headset.

Circumaural; surrounds the ear (best type of headset to have for quality, noise positioning, and comfort for extended use)

Razor tends to have some decent headsets... the Razor Megladon's are awesome 7.1 surround headsets. I love mine.

i'd just like to brag and say i have a pair of these puppies:

if you can at all afford it, get something like these. i used cheap USB sets for years, and after a while there was always something uncomfortable about them (particularly since i wear glasses). even though these are the largest i've ever owned, the padding is phenomenal. the sound lives up to the price of course. if the machine guns are as badass as paul makes em out to be, i may have to turn it down a bit heh.

i wouldnt go with the plantronics my friend has those and they are very uncomfortable, i couldnt wear them for more than 10 minutes

thanks to all for the suggestions. i was already considering the creative ones, so it's nice to know i'm not too far off. has anyone tried the Rosewills? I know that some of their products are great for the $$ while others are not so much. i'll look into the logitechs as well, but I really can't justify any higher price than that.

I agree with sumdumfu, but I'll give you a cheaper option. 5.1 surround really helps with FPS and even MMO PvP.

Look into the Analog version of the Sharkoon Xtatic. I bought them and I love them. You can control the volume of each channel, to include the sub and you can even use them on an Xbox 360, etc..The only downside is that if you want to be able to switch back and forth between speakers and headphones you'll have to custom build a 5.1 audio switchbox. It's not that hard, I made one with parts bought at Radio Shack.

For the switchbox, I actually added a fourth switch for the Microphone.

And while the sound quality is pretty decent, but it must have been designed for someone with a really small head, it litterally squeezes your head like a vice, I only use it for guests at one of my LAN/Drinking gatherings, after about 30 minutes it's almost unbearable to wear..
I tried for 2 weeks to get used to it, and it was a no go, so if you have anything larger than a child's head, you may be hurting..

I was really disappointed in Plantronics over that issue, the sound quality was fine for the money, but the fit was painful, it got set aside..
This may not be a problem for you though..

Thanks - That makes me feel better about opting out of getting a new headset for now. I figure a 50" Plasma screen and surround sound is good enough immersion for me.

I figure I can't do much worse since at work I already sit in front of dual monitors at my work with a server under my desk, and have 2 mobile devices on me

I got a $30 set of of Microsoft LiveChat LX-3000 stereo USB Headphones with a microphone, from Office Depot. They fit well, the sound is good enough, the basic stereo tuning gives my left-right awareness (and that's all I want right now), the microphone works well, it's cheap, requires no software, and don't make my ears raw after wearing them for a couple hours.
