Help With Flamers

I know they're terrible, but it's hard to judge if they do anything at all. I looked around for a video that shows the receiving end but I can't find one. I've been playing them for hours and have only been able to destroy one component, legged a raven, but I died before I could get his other leg. I try to go after energy boats but I can't tell if these things are actually working. I'm using either 12 or 7 depending on the mech. Are more even beneficial?

Flamers are only generating heat when you could be constant on it and it you have a Mech that has no friends to shoot you. We tested one time a Flamer Mech against another one and it took much time to get the heat up to the level where it became annoying for the other Mech. Better think of arming your Mech differently to make a difference in battle IMO.

Even my 14 flamer Nova? Are they that bad? I mixed in a TAG because 14 flamers is just stupid.

Run 2x flamer in chain fire. Same damage as 1 flamer but nearly zero heat because it keeps resetting the exponential modifier

I noticed that in my Firestarter. I'd alpha with 7 and switch to chain once I started getting too hot. I tried the 6 flamer Cheetah but it loses arms too quickly.

How to make the most out of a Flamer in MWO:
Step 1. Remove that waste of trash to free up that precious energy hardpoint
Step 2. Sell it for a paltry amount of c-bills
Step 3. Mount a medium laser. Because why the **** not. They're superior in every way

I run a 2x MG 4x Flamer Urbie build.

I get kills consistently with it.

I'm pretty sure if we could fit 14 MGs and a TAG to a mech it could actually hurt something.
I'm waiting PGI to publish Piranha to prove my point... it will happen some day, I hope.

Flamers are lost cause.You either go with MGs or Mlas.But not flamers.

I just built a LRM80 Clan Oxide. You can actually fit 6 tons of ammo on it. The arms look sick.

They dont do anything except prevent the enemy mech from cooling, all the same time it sends your heat sky-rocketing.

To be honest, Flamers are IMO some of the most useless weapons you can mount on your Mech. 12 ER-Small Laser Nova or 6 ER-Med Laser Nova + 4 MGs does the job much better.

I'm just looking to troll, but still slightly contribute. I know none of these builds are good. I was running 12 tags and 2xLRM5 but that was just too boring. looked cool though. My double narc jenner was sweet, but no LRM boats on that match....

Edit: I've actually been semi successful in my LRM70 Timby with 21 tons of ammo. I just can't handle actually playing in the solo que right now. Maybe once the Steam guys get better. For now I'll just run around with no armor and LRM.

That video was of someone in a LPL/ML Urbie build so... how is that relevant to your claim that you get kills consistently in your Flamer, MG build. Honestly, no disrespect, I just find it really hard to believe.

Being Tier 1.. you're not playing with the T4/T5 new players (ie, majority of Steam players right now)

Flamers can only generate heat for your target up to 95%. You can't actually use them to make the mech shut down. Well, you can use them to shut down yours.
