Hi,
I got the Steam assault mechs. I want to change the weapons arround some, add ecm, the usual. I have over 35 million c bills.

I can't get the dam thing to do anything. I tried to add an unlocked consumable, but I don't see a place to save.

Am I an idiot or is this a kludge?

The 100 ton wolf is a laser boat. I hate laser boats, I'd like to add some AC to cut back on the heat problems.
Is there a good way to do that?

Thanks

The game doesn't explain some things very well.

In short you go out to your mech load out screen, and click and drag things around. On the right side is an item list your mech can use, just click and drag it over to your mech. On the far left side in the middle is a save button. It will show the cost of the modifications you've made.

You change your mechs loadout in the mechlab.
Also you buy new wepons there for cbills.
ECM, Weapon types and AMS are things that require spezialized slots from your mech.
If the weapon pods do not have ballistic slots you cant add ballistic weapons.
You need to add other omnipods that have ballistic slots.
Also every weapon has a crit slot size.
A medlaser fe has 1 crit a PPC has 3 and so on every weapon has a size.
So if you want to add a certain weapon your mech needs enough free tonnage, a suitable weaponslot and enough free space to add this weapon ( remember you need at least half a tonn ammo for a ammo dependent weapon to do anything most weapons should have alt least 2 tonns per weapon exception is smal srms and smal lrms. )

visit smurphys mechlab to experiment with building loadouts before buying stuff.

Smurfys

Have fun

Hello

First remain calm.
Question You are in the mechlab, are you changing the omni pod?
A Clan omni Mech mount certain weapons depending on what omni pod you have installed
Example a Direwolf Left arm S omni pod has 1 energy hard-point the W omni pod has 1 ballistic hard point. So if the mech has the S omni pod installed all you can install is energy weapons if you want ballistics you would need to install the W omni pod for the left arm. (NOTE There are more options then I listed)
TO configure the omni pod select the Omni pod tab in the mechlab (Only clan Omni MEchs have this option) there will be a list of available omni pods so you can configure the mech.
Remember nothing is saved until you hit save and pay the price in C-Bills for the changes if you do not already own what you are installing.
THe lab gets easier to use--Please not there is also an UNDO button that works prior to the "SAVE"

Good luck I hope I helped

Welcome to MWO! The UI is a bit confusing at times. Check out this play list it covers the UI from end to end. It should answer all your questions. If something is still unclear, don't hesitate to ask.

unfortunately the assualts in the Steam performance pack cannot take ECM, only certain Mechs can take ECM, they are:
Locust-PB, Commando-2D Mist Lynx, Spider-5K, Kit Fox, Arctic Cheetah, Raven-3L, Cicada-3M, Shadow Cat, Griffin-2N, Hellbringer, Catapract-0XP and Atlas-D-DC

to add consumables in the mechlab go to the loadout screen then the modules tab, drag the module into a consumable slot and click save a little up from the bottom left corner

to put hardpoints on for other weapons (note this only works on Omnimechs, at current most Clan Mechs and no IS Mechs) in the Mechlab, on the loadout screen go to the omnipods tab, then find the pod you want (e.g. the prime arms have 4 energy and 1 ballistic hardpoint) then just drag it onto the relevant section, there are also some torso pods with up-to 2 ballistic hardpoints a torso

I think Koshi belongs on this list, too.

Welcome aboard! I suppose it's a bit late to tell you that the Steam packages aren't the greatest value out there, really. :( Well, live and learn. Hopefully you're enjoying the mechs anyhow!

Okay, there are a couple of things happening here.

Consumable module? Well, FIRST you have to UNLOCK it with GXP in the SKILLS tab. For the upgraded versions, anyhow. The basic (not so good, but not AWFUL) consumable modules are available to you regardless of skills and all. They should cost about 10-40k CBills, with the high-end ones going for 15 MC (DO NOT buy those! You can WIN them, anyhow, in the Stocking Stuffer event!).

Other modules, the NON-consumable ones, you have to first UNLOCK via the SKILLS tab, and then BUY in the MECH LAB with CBills. You BUY by simply dragging/dropping the item. Same as any piece of equipment that your mech is eligible to equip.

NEITHER? I suspect neither, though I'm not 100% clear on what you mean by 'kludge'. (English is NOT the language I studied formally in college.) You stopped in here and asked an honest question, so NO, you are NOT an idiot. You did right! The game would be even MORE fun right now if more folks followed that example, but I'm not whining (yet).

So, like any other part of a mech, you'd have to buy the peculiar omnipods for the DWF that support ballistic hard points. I see from Smurfy that ALL DWF variants have at least ONE ballistic hard point, but I suspect you're looking to build a dakka-Whale. The DWF-B right and left torso omnipods each have two ballistic hard points, and as such you can stuff a lot of Ultra Autocannon in there. And that still leaves room in the arms for whatever. The dakka-Whale is pretty ridiculously powerful, actually.

Simply go to the OMNIPODS tab in MECH LAB, make sure that "OWNED ITEMS" is unchecked, and drop-down the tabs for RIGHT TORSO and LEFT TORSO. Then, select the ones you want (AGAIN, I think it's the DWF-B for both), one at a time, and drag to the spot where you see your current omnipod for that component on the paper doll in MECH LAB. Do this once for each omnipod you want to replace. HURRAY! Once those are in place, any equipment that WAS in the location will be returned to the warehouse (YOUR warehouse, that is, so it's still YOURS). You can then go back to the WEAPONS tab in the MECH LAB, select what you'd like to install there, and drag/drop again.
