Too much of a gray area, lest there be copyright problems everywhere.

I agree with Captian Fabulous (I had a chuckle as I typed that). The copyright issues will be crazy. They could however allow a small emblem to be attached to your 'Mech that shows clan membership. By clan I mean gaming clan not the decendants of the Star League military. These would have to be vetted by the developers first though, like the ones in WoT.

I guess the symbol you take will be checked for copyright before you use it.

I wouldn't put it past them to include an emblem system in the mechlab. It's a simple and very attractive trait. Everyone loves having their little fancy stars and swords they designed themselves. Far as copyright infringement, they can easily just give us all our available design pieces and no worries.

No word on random player made images and probably won't have them.

They do have custom skins you can use with in-game flair. Hopefully they'll let us add some customisable decals over them too. B)

So true.

And not only this but people using nudity and crude words and images on their mechs, which will tear down to shreds the atmosphere out of the game as well as cause some troubles with copyrights laws and childs´parents.

Remember reading in a Q&A that there will be cosmetic customization of mechs in the game, but you will not be able to import your own graphics. You'll be able to select from a set created by PGI. Because if PGI wants to market MWO in Germany, they can't have people putting swastikas all over their mechs.

They stated some form of Emblems would be in the mech lab customization of the color scheme/camouflage but aside from that they gave no details.

I liked the customization in Armored Core V. I would love a similar system in MWO.

My suspicion or more accurately hope is they will ultimately allow players to submit their own skins and emblems for approval and these will become available for your use once they are approved. They may even go so far as to say that any approved skins and emblems are right to use by them and they would be made available to all players. That's just a thought anyway. I suspect they will have a fair amount of built in emblems and skins to choose from so not too many will feel it necessary to try to get their own in. After all, you won't even see your own skin or emblems unless you are in the mechlab. Only others will see it.

If they did something similar to COD: Black Ops, that would be pretty cool. Basically give you a pre-set amount of pics, colors, and layers to make your own emblem.

The problem is, with the footage I have seen of the game, the emblem would be way too small on a Mech to make anything out. It might have to be just a player tag like COD series or Uncharted 3, but I haven't seen anything like that shown either. I know it is just early Beta, but I don't know if they will be making provisions for it.

P.S. Sorry for mentioning COD, but it was a good example.

While having an emblem creator in game may be cool. It brings back bad memories of the Dumb kids playing CoD, that created a Horse screwing a pig, or the 900000 other emblems of giant phallus symbol.
Though that could be worked around by having the emblem cost cbils to create and generally have people just report any unsavory emblems they see.
All in all a open emblem creator is a double edged sword

Yea, it would be a carfeul balance. Black Ops made it too easy to be obscene, but Uncharted 3 made the emblem creation too limited and boring to be worth it. Something in the middle would be cool, but I can't imagine PGI would want to sift through 100s of "Inappropriate emblem" reports all the time like I'm sure Black Ops GMs had to look through.

Anyhting to minimize server side lag is good and having no emblems is a good thing as the server has to update all mechs with a specific emblem for all clients and could cause a slowdown while trying to update everyones computer....This game will already be pushing max standards if you compare this to other pvp games, lets not try to add even more video lag to the game. Just my 2 cents......

Regardless, I'd rather have the risk than take something like what was in MechWarrior 4 where there were like 12 pre-set graphics that you couldn't alter at all... And they all honestly kinda sucked.

I agree, the camo color choices in MW4 were horrible.
