I frequently use names associated with wolves.

Lykaon is a character from Greek Myth who was transformed into a wolf by Zeus. It is also the source of the word Lycanthrope.

Back in 1999, I played a new and quite unique little shooter called Starsiege: Tribes. I couldn't figure out what to call myself, because the name I'd been using didn't really fit anymore (I cut my online gaming teeth playing Command & Conquer a few years before that). One day, somebody ganked me at my spawn, I got pissed, tracked him down, and devoted the entire rest of the round to killing that same guy over and over and over again. Somebody made a crack about it, it became a running gag, and I've been using it ever since.

When I played battlefield 2, I used the screen -GeorgePattonJr, I always liked the movie. Thought "why not?"

A random guy informed me there is IN FACT a real George Patton Jr. So, I looked him up, and realized his dad sorta had all the glory, and uh, not what I was going for...

After photoshopping historical figures, as terminators, the idea just sorta popped in my noggin. I thought, "whats better than George Patton's kid? A cyborg George Patton! (duh)".

So, there you have it meat-bags.

WarZ

I enjoy war games. FPS, strategy, etc. I started going by WarZ over a decade ago because "wars" was always taken, and using that cap Z at the end was all the rage Posted Image Pronounced as "wars".

Then that s****y game called WarZ came out. And I had to endure a couple years of people asking why I'd name myself after such a s**t game. And everyone always pronounces it as "War" - "Z" because of it. It got sooo old always having to correct them. My name was here first bi****s, lol.

But luckily I can enjoy my name with a lot less ridicule again, lol.

I was originally "Jade Kitsune" referencing a character I played back in 2002 in Neverwinter Nights, a long, storied character that I still play off and on in RPG's to this day.

Later, I found myself majoring in Film Making, and then struck up a love of My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic. I wanted a pony-esque name... and since many pony's are named after things... I choose the name "Flash Frame" which is an editing term for a screw up in a cut that leaves a blank frame between two frames. thus creating a "Flash" in the film when played back.

I was more partial to Bigwig and El-Ahraira, but that's a cool name.

With me being stuck between either Lonewolf199 or Producer(-)san, both comes down to thing relating to how I work, sort of.

With Producer(-)san, well. Incase somebody watched or played Idolm@ster, it technically refers to the guy you play/the one running the studio. His original name seems to be just that. In the first series, it's a dude with glasses, kind personality and the likes. One day, somebody simply told me "Dude, you look just like him, and your attitude is similar too! You should take that as a nick from now on!", said, done.

For Lonewolf199, I used to get into gaming without anyone else, pretty much, just playing most games by myself. And because I had a thing for characters that seem to get their **** done without help because they lack any, I adapted to a similar way of thinking back in the day. The 199 being a random but simple number to remember, and to also stick.

TKG stands for The Knights Guard, which was a nickname in high school. Growing up we would play a lot of chess and one of my common strategies was to use the knight's flexibility to take an early advantage of the board, rather than setting up a guard with pawns or the other pieces. Thus it was dubbed TKG and the nickname stuck.

Bedwyr is my SCA name and is old welsh spelling for Sir Bedivere of the Arthurian Legends. Growing up he was my favorite Knight and one of the few to survive past Arthur's death. He was also considered to be one of the best fighters in Arthur's court.

Admittedly this name is something I never gave much thought to making (but much time - low thought density!). Basically story goes like this: need name for Gaia Online account, want simple, memorable, and clutter-free name, went through several names (IIRC about 20?) before settling with the current one.

It's thankfully a rarely-used name, so it's permanent for me.

I played StarSiege, it was the first online game I really got into. (For those who don't know, It was out around 1999 and got compared a lot with its competitor MechWarrior 2). The unit I decided to join was called Birds of Prey and everybody had bird names. They named me Duck because of my tendency to run my mouth (quack) a lot as well as my skill at faking out weaknesses by on-the-fly manually rotating my shields (I look like a sitting duck with a damaged component by my shields were in fact just fine). When Perfect Dark came out for the N64 I loved that game so much I renamed myself Perfect Duck.

Wanted a "Tough" name and figured if Tekken could have characters like Paul Pheonix, and Brian Fury, Clint Steel was fine.

From there I've used it in many games, and even in a couple student films.

Figure I'll add my 2 cents in here and recount my story.

I started playing online computer games with Mechwarrior 3, and when I first made my callsign on there I chose something like 'Cobra' if my memory serves. I liked Cobra attack helicopters, so figured I'd roll with that.

I then bump in to guy by the name of GDL_Highriot, and he proceeds to invite me to play a 1v1 against him after he sees me playing in a match (this is several months after I started playing online, so I wasn't a total newbie) and after I trounce him fairly soundly a few rounds in stock 'mechs, he invites me to join the Gray Death Legion mercs (of the Battletech Universe 'BTU' League.)

At the end of the match, after he invites me in to GDL and I accept, he makes the statement:

"Glad to have you aboard, but we're going to have to do something about your callsign... After seeing you pilot I've already got a name in mind. From now on, your callsign is Havoc."

And so, Havoc I became, and Havoc I remain, all through MechWarrior 3, MechWarrior 3: Pirates Moon, MechWarrior 4, MechWarrior 4: Black Knight, MechWarrior 4: Mercenaries, and now MechWarrior: Online.

That's my contribution. Not as creative as some, or interesting as others, but in my opinion a proper callsign isn't chosen, it's given or earned. :)

Take care all, Merry Christmas, and Happy New Year.

-Colonel Andrew "Havoc" Davis
Death's Hand Brigade Mercenaries
