Final question for you: What if I'm the "average gamer" and you're not?

Also, Kraftwerkedup? You'd laugh yourself silly if I stated what my actual political leanings are - ever heard of a guy called Alexander Berkman?

But when in Rome... Posted Image

Yeah Berkman was great. He had pretty high hopes for the Soviet Union, then goes there, and realizes, this is not what I donated to the Kickstarter for. He was like the original bittervet founder.

eh
MWO is the game I always come back to

considering other games in the market doing similar things (WoT for instance), MWO is kinda average or below

Nice!

And im one of those too. Though theres always that band that has played 2 shows, but has an entire rack of T shirts they had some graphic designer do up, and theyll like hotcakes because of the "support the scene" mentality.

Its brilliant stuff...but irks some people. Itll always exist though was my point.

http://nolifetolive.bandcamp.com/

Currently ive been working on an anti-scene Hardcore band. No merchandise. No covers. Free vinyl records. Totally negative 'anti' content.

Its been a nice divergence from my main project, http://www.metal-arc...aust/3540280283

Between that and the label, I do ok. Im certainly not middle class by any stretch of the imagination.

I got a wife, I support a family.

It aint hard. And I aint whining about the prices of things in free games.

I get it, if you work 40 hours and you dont have the time to grind these things out, and you look at the prices to skip the grind, its frustratingly expensive for alot of working people. Then you start with this bias and look for a reason to justify why the prices should be in your range. What you can afford.

The game is made for TT grognards like myself, or StJobe, who had no problem spending thousands on sourcebooks and miniatures. Yet, its free, so it also allows people like Eze to play too.

Just not at the same level.

Its like Eze is coming into my garage and im letting him use 500 dollars worth of maps, books, and miniatures, and hes complaining to me about how much all MY STUFF costs...its free for you man. Calm your ****. You dont have to have 500 dollars worth of Battletech stuff to enjoy yourself. Go get megamek, print some map sheets, use counters, use a laser pointer and a ruler...you dont even need maps.

But dont go around telling other people "If this was all cheaper more people would buy it"

No you mean YOU would buy it...

Im pretty sure theres not that many people who are like, man I want to be a grognard, but its just too expensive.

If youre casually into MWO, you really dont have a soapbox to stand on as they say. Thats not who this game is aimed at.

See i don't think that's the reason.. I know to many bands.. and to many people in bands to see um fold after 2 shows.. lol

But i am glad people keep supporting this game.. i really enjoy it.. and i hope it keeps going strong till single player comes.. and i can look back and say.. look how far this little founder game came.. Posted Image

You've been visiting the same bar for 3 years.

You break it to your friends there that you're an alcoholic and won't be showing up anymore

They all give an uneasy laugh and a few jokes, avoiding the fact that if you're an alcoholic, they probably are as well.

Well Floridas a weird scene. Theres a TON of competition, but almost no recognition. Were not Nashville, were not LA, were not New York. We dont have a Whiskey or CBGBs type of mentality here.

Were famous for Lynryd Skynyrd and Molly Hatchet. So if youre metal, punk, glam, folk, indy, shoegaze, whatever...you have a hell of a climb to make money...so that means all the local bands and touring bands, have to find creative ways to make money.

It leads to there being ALOT of bands, which is great, but its also kind of pretentious and annoying. You see highschool kids show up with all Orange brand equipment, and a plethora of merch options, and theyve only written 3 original songs, are on their 2nd show, and everything else is covers..

Totally works tho because were kind of the *** end of the tour circuit, so besides local entertainment, there isnt much to do music wise.

Im currently striving for that "anti marketing" dollar. Its hot right now.

I have a label and distro, but its not really a business per say, more like a really time consuming hobby. But I got a pool this year!

I definitely get it. I mean, what do I really need over 100 mechs for? I can't pilot them all in any reasonable span of time. And yet I have to fight the temptation to buy more.

So I'll stand up and say it. I'm a mechaholic.

I do not believe there is an anti-PGI clique, just people concerned about their recent decisions.

can't agree with you there. There is a very vocal group still on reddit and I think less on the SC Forums (heard they got quashed or something) that have spent the last 2 years spreading actual outright lies, half truths and generally doing everything to undermine PGI no matter what.

Many who have a stated goal of making MWO crash and burn so that"PGI loses the license and we can get a real battletech game", etc.

Heck, while less active here, there's still plenty who can only spout pure venom every post.

$87 USD. That is all i have spent since 2012. $80 Founder's pack and 1250 MC (now its 1500 MC).

That is everything. I do have a couple of light hero mechs but i do believe i paid for them with the 20k MC i got from the Founder's pack.

Compare $87 USD to how much i have paid for Star Citizen - $1677.50 USD. Most of that, physical merchandise (clothes, patches, mugs, models etc) and only $624 of actual in game ships.

I've bought the following packs:

Masakari $240 (did consider buying a gold clan 'mech)
Clan Wave II top tier (for Mad Dog) $120
Clan Wave III top tier $120
Resistance I top tier $80
Resistance II top tier $80
Urban Collectors $40
Origins IIC top tier $80
Marauder Collectors + Hero $55
Archer Collectors + Hero $55
1x 25,000 MC package

I still have 10,500 hours banked of Premium time (437.5 days) from those purchases.

That's over the last two and 1/2 years not including the few MC packs from 2013.

However, I consider that I was playing WoW for 9 years at $14.99/MO, which is $179.88/year, plus all of the expansions... and 4 additional accounts for multi-boxing that I did for 1 year ($75/mo x 12 = $900/yr).

Thus, I really never moved to a less expensive game genre, just a way to fill the void spending the same amount.

I may just be insane, though.

Now that I did the math... I'ma go cry in a corner.

If I added up everything ive spent on Vinyl records.

I might just have a heart attack.

If this is what you love, its worth whatever you paid.

Vinyl
Gun collection (my springfield m1A1 was over 3500$ when I was done modifying it. And at one point had nearly 30 firearms)
Concerts (372 and counting)
Old Mopars and VWs
Scuba
Free diving
Spear fishing
Armor and Weapons and Clothes for the SCA
Book Collection (5000 and counting)
RPG collection

Mind you, a few, like hunting and fishing actually sort of pay for themselves. But most add little "real" value to one's life.

Value is subjective. As long as one can afford it, who gives a flying crap what one spends?

I'm about $860 into this game but I have been playing for around 33 months. I'm not spending any more at the moment because I am also sitting on $400 mil in c-bills because I have bought packs and such.

Isn't F2P great!!

Fortunately my gun collection is mostly Russian stuff. Cheaaap. Just not the 54r. Man that can be expensive for decent ones. And some of the pistol cartridge calibers are hard to find.

But the travel (just went to Nashville for 4 days, then home, then Rabaul with the wife for 4 days in the South Pacific for some Christmas scuba diving. We both have the same birthday as well, December 17, so we like to take a real crazy vacation to celebrate) then travel with the band, band equipment, constantly having a great PC, the game ADD that fills up my Steam Library, the small library of history books I have, plus all the table top gaming and the then restored C5 Jeep from Korea...my hobbies have a pretty hefty price tag.

Fortunately im thrifty. As well as Krafty lol. Im not a big "consumer" I guess you could say. I dont own a car. I ride a bike. I dont buy 'crap I dont need', I have 4 pairs of jeans and some shorts. Im pretty frugal with stuff that doesnt matter to me, so I have the bills paid, the wife taken care of and happy, and to have the stuff I actually want.

I wouldnt want someone to tell me that having a giant vinyl record collections or a 1975 Les Paul is a waste of my money.

I dont spend money on this, but ill never fault someone for doing so. The Gold mechs? I couldnt think of a worse way to spend my money....MY money. If you want that, and that makes you happy. Im happy for you. Period. Why be a jerk about how much someone spends on their happiness? That gold mech, is a skateboard to me. If that gives you the same pleasure id get from a skateboard, by god sir, be happy.

It aint heroin.

Oh yeah, I also once did competitive Type 2 (Standard) Magic: the Gathering. That IS A REALLY EXPENSIVE hobby. I recently sold out of it to buy a new MSI GS70 gaming laptop using that money alone for it, that is serious bling.

To reiterate what others are saying, if you are careful of how you spend your money on this game (do the research on the variants per pack), it can be much cheaper than subscription MMO's or Cardboard Cracktm .
