Oh yeah, I also once did competitive Type 2 (Standard) Magic: the Gathering. That IS A REALLY EXPENSIVE hobby. I recently sold out of it to buy a new MSI GS70 gaming laptop using that money alone for it, that is serious bling.

To reiterate what others are saying, if you are careful of how you spend your money on this game (do the research on the variants per pack), it can be much cheaper than subscription MMO's or Cardboard Cracktm .

Costs me at least 35 bucks to go to the beach between gas and parking, and some liquid, stay hyrdrated! I get there around 1-2, and leave around 7..

I've never met a beach goer that said.. Your crazy! it's more... It's a beautiful day for fun in the sun.. I also never met a person outside of the beach that said i was stupid for doing soo... Yea.. last summer i spent more going to the beach than this game has cost me..

and i will do it again this summer!!!

So back to OnTopic.... My clan account cost me less than a day at the beach.. :P i spent 30 dollars on MC on my new clan account.. Bought the Champion Timber, and now have 4k MC banked for that mech bay/paint/camo sale so i can get more mechs and look good driving them yee-ha!

I got 6 hours of fun just yesterday... though i will still take my days at the beach once weather allows.. Come on July!!

I find it best not to think about how much I spent on MWO. No point in bumming myself out.

That's life in general.

If one added up how much they spent annually on starbucks, fast food, nickel and dime crap purchases, chewing gum, etc......

They'd be bummed out.

It's interesting how important it is for some of you to defend or offend when in reality no one really cares.
Worse than a sewing circle.

Ive spent less than $.70 a day on this game and have enjoyed every penny.

Ok went through it all including mech packs. Maybe a little over a $1 a day but my mechs have to eat.

I don't think there is anything I like at McDonalds.
Stock is doing well though.

With that said I'm not going to defend my reasoning for hating it.

Not sure if y'all are humble-bragging or what but those of us who spend large, if not obscene amounts of money on this game are the reason there is a game.

If we all truly played "free" then PGI would have gone out of business a long time ago.
You like playing? Pay up.

Own your addiction people. If you enjoy the game spend some $. More $ to the devs means more game, more features, better maps, new mechs, etc. If nothing else, your $ keeps the servers running. That is the reality of FPS. Ain't nothin' free.

And on that note I need to go buy the Marauders...again.

That's it? I spent $1290 so far. That's $27 monthly over 4 years, so it's not actually all that much when put into perspective.
I haven't decided yet whether or not I'm going to get the Archer or Rifleman packs or any packs in the near future since the pricing on them and the rate they're being released is kind of high at the moment, I may just grind for them given that I've got plenty of mechs that still need grinding anyway.

Man.... I was really trying to not estimate how much I had spent, but then you made that damn list...

I tack on my plane ticket from NJ to SF to attend the launch party too.

My only saving grace is that I played tabletop games for years so I'm used to paying wayyyy too much money for pretty paper weights, or in this case, pixels. The amount spent on this game pales in comparison to the black hole of money that is Warhammer.

I used to defend my hobby by comparing it to my buddy's guitar collection. But when you add it all together, pixels, books, minis, dice, computers..... Yeah......

hm, i really dont wanna do the math, but lets see...

i own Elite Founder, Overlord Phoenix pack, Clan Wave 1, the Muromets, several months of premium time, a few mechbays and additional MCs here and there, some spent on CB-mechs or what ever... ((gotta say i went crazy in the first few months after launch so i basically burned my founders MC on standard mechs which i mostly sold, repurchased, sold ...lol)) i´d say it´s not as much as others may have spent, but clearly ALOT more than i´d normally be willing to spend on one single game Posted Image

MWO is the first one where i did spend that much money without hesitation... why ever... it´s a love-hate relationship...tbh, i dont buy packages anymore...clan 1 was the last one that i "needed" to give my clan account a jumpstart, but most pheonix mechs were such a disappointment that i dont play the "super-while-paywalled-then-nerfed-when-CBilled" game with PGI anymore... to each their own, but other than some premium time and maybe another irresistable hero when on sale (if there will ever be one that i really want) i´ll proably just keep waiting for CB releases... I got more than enough mechs anyway Posted Image

People believe whatever they want to these days if it makes them feel good in their pigeon hole of reality. The lack of critical thinking, empathy, and general knowledge of society is so lost on people it's astounding. It will continue to be a perpetual downwards spiral in the world as long as people refuse to open their eyes. The sense of self importance is truly saddening, as if you alone are the reason the game exists, or that because you pulled a good card in life that you are more deserving than someone that works equally as hard, or very likely harder than you do with that selfish mentality.

I also don't recall PGI ever releasing a financial statement to back any of the 'points' that people attempted to make.

The conjecture that starts flying when someone mentions the absurdity of the pricing here is to a point, hilarious; most of these arguments rely entirely on ad hominem responses instead of logical thinking.

This isn't a guilt trip as much as it is meant to open a new thought process; I'm not hating on anyone specifically here.

This is a forum dedicated to a video game populated almost entirely by people who have spent a lot of money on said game. So do you just like stating the obvious or were you trying for a genuinely insightful comment and you simply missed the mark by several timezones?

well, unless he's a really well payed musician (and thus they pay for themselves), or they are rare and collectable guitars, you'd be surprised how similar the real world resale value might be.....

Maybe... But i'm sorry, this might be the internet, but putting someone down, for having spent money on a game Is complete and utter crap... It's a poor mans hobby. If people want to rant about injustice in the world.. the few hundred bucks people spend on a hobby is not one of them..

Want to talk about world poverty.. talk to giant food corporations, corporate subsidies, arms manufacturers, the people that pocket trillions every year on the backs of the slaves....

A small company like this is not the reason behind it.. Its a game site.. I wish people could keep the talk to about it, and not put others down, or blame on the world problems on it.. Its suppose to be an escape for something you enjoy.. But it seems many forget that.

Well the one really nice thing about the table top paper weights, is they actually will hold collectible value, at least maybe to some in the future.. and probably more distant.. unlike this when it goes off line you loose it all. Unless of course they just release the whole thing as a one time shot buy, or give it away for free...

I look at online gaming like i do concerts or anything else i do for fun in life, it's more about what those memories are worth to you.. I know some that would say the 5 grand they spent to take their kids to disney world when they were 6 was worth every penny, and those kids can remember that for the rest of their lives.. I personally never got that as my parents could not afford that.. Instead we got to go camping in the woods for a week.. no mickey, but hotdogs on the open fire, a lake to swim in and some fireworks made it a time to remember.. :)

Most of the newbies i spectate(less than 6 achievement and t5 t4) on Steam have purchased mech not available for cbills yet. Meaning that if you remove player retention from the equation PGI has the best monetisation model you can find. Those have Broadcast Open to all though, so they maybe more motivated than others to spend money in a game before they learn how to play it.

True, to an extent. I'm doubt my Warhammer mini's will be worth anything close to what I paid for them in the future, but you hit the nail on the head with the memories. I'll probably keep the stuff forever just to pull them out once every few years for the nostalgia.
