Trying to let poor Oxide have a few hours rest... thought I'd tinker with some different MAD builds last night. A few beers had me wanting to do something with the missle hardpoints on my 5D.

Seems a shame to let them go to waste. Any thoughts or improvements to something sorta like this http://mwo.smurfy-ne...39c948bf87ccf6b ?
I know it has a lot of wub, and I hate to look metalike.. but I am terrible with standard burn lasers.... :/

I am not much of an LRM jockey, but I often find myself wishing I had a little "whoosh" to reach out and tickle as I'm closing distance thus the 5-rack. And for those times the arms are stripped an SRM to help close in.

I'm tend to run pretty simplistic most often, two weapon systems/groups.. one heavy hitter and something to support. (for example the 5D loadout I mastered in was just a PPC and 4xMPL and a stack of heatsinks).

Looking for something reasonably playable but more "realistically/balanced" in loadout.
So,interested in some 5D builds others have found fun... preferably not built around an XL but I'm openminded. Thanks!

I am not at my home computer, but here are a couple of the MAD builds I have. I run standard engines on all my

6 Medium lasers, 1 gauss+4 tons of ammo, near maxed armor and the biggest engine I could fit in it after all that.
4 MPL, 1 LRM 20 + as much ammo as I could fit with ( I want to say) 275 standard engine.
4 ML, 2 AC/5 + ammo (or change it to a AC10).

Thats what I run with my marauders. Its a lot of fun to pilot the mini-crab. and running so many lasers is nice for taking down fast mechs that the AC/gauss weapons cant keep up with.

I did something not too dissimilar: http://mwo.smurfy-ne...e5c4bb5e82b68f6

1 LPL, 4 ML's, and 2 SRM6's with 2.5 tons of ammo. Moves well with a STD 350 engine.

It hits for a laser alpha of 31, and add another 24-ish with the SRM's if it's a brawl.

If you get in a sustained brawl, stay with the SRM's until you can cool down enough to get off another laser salvo.

here's something that might tickle your fancy...
pretty simple, 3 Lpulse 2 SRM4 standard300 and a few jumpjets for maneuverability and with speed tweak will just about hit 70

Without any real thought put into it, a little more 'whoosh' delivered in a Battletechy way (as many stock descriptions mention changing out X weapon for Y weapon of a similar type in order to get tonnage for Z weapon to be put in). Overall your general reach improves quite a bit, though your 'face time' increases a fair bit too.
