I have been using this name for over 30 years (I am 42) I used it when I first started playing D&D in the 70s and when I started playing battletech in the 80s when it came out I used it. It is a play on Wraith but at same time is also a play on my celtic heritage.

My nick means "the civilian" in German.

I use this nickname for all PvP-heavy games, in hopes that people will see me as harmless and face moral dilemmas when trying to shoot me! :D

You should team up with "Innocent Bystander" =P

Back in the mid 90s I used a few different callsigns when I played NM95. None of them really stuck. I used Taz in my sigs and I tended to listen to White Zombie while playing, so it only seemed logical to use the callsign Devilman (from Astrocreep 2000). That one stuck, though most of the people who I played with just called me DM.

Now that we can put spaces in our names, it only made sense to break the name into Devil Man.

Obviously it's a handle, not a "character" name.

I chose Tarrasque because of my true gaming roots: Dungeons and Dragons.

In D&D, the Tarrasque is basically the only unkillable creature in existence. Per Wikipedia:

It is hoped that the tarrasque is a solitary creation, some hideous abomination unleashed by the dark arts or by elder, forgotten gods to punish all of nature. The elemental nature of the tarrasque leads the few living tarrasque experts to speculate that the elemental princes of evil have something to do with its existence. In any case, the location of the tarrasque remains a mystery, as it rarely leaves witnesses in its wake, and nature quickly grows over all remnants of its presence. It is rumored that the tarrasque is responsible for the extinction of one ancient civilization, for the records of their last days spoke of a 'great reptilian punisher sent by the gods to end the world'.

Well, I try not to use the same name on every forum, and I prefer to keep certain forums separate from others, so my normal online names were out. Being a big horror movie fan, and typically taking the bad guy's name, I tried for "Driftwood" (as in Otis, the crazy necro-rapist from House of 1000 corpses/ The Devil's Rejects), but it was already taken.

I try not to use titles in the name, since that could end up looking weird with earned titles, so that further limited it. Then I struck gold, why not use the "good guy's" name. So, although the Sheriff went fairly over the edge, using this as a base name means that I can go anywhere, without prior connotations as to what I should be doing.

Back in the winter of 1996 I used to hear my Father talk about being worried about black ice when driving home from work. It was ice on the road that you could not see and was causing a lot of crashes. A dark, patient, quiet killer that takes you out when you least expect it. That Christmas I received a sidewinder 3D pro that came with a copy of Mechwarrior 2. When picking a pilot name it suited my personality perfectly. I have used this name in every game I have ever played since.

Lol, so you are the one that stole my name! Go back and read my post :D

People used to call me a space-cadet. And idk, a couple years ago i started silkscreen 'kozmonot' logos and the word all over everything. Still do it, and it stuck.

With mine I was tired of my other nickname being used and having to do many variants of it. It was RazorWolf which as a kid I liked the name Razor and the Wolf part came from clan Wolf, I loved MechWarrior 2 at the time and always played clan Wolf. Now I just use Joelku because it's part my name and as a teenager I watched DBZ all the time so mixing Joel and ku from Goku worked and I never have problems registering it.

Back in the younger days of the Internet when most active internet folks had at least played battletech I found that my usual choice for usernames kept getting taken (Charger, Charger1A1) I eventually made it IIC as it is rarely used (not being canon a design).

I later made a clantech Charger model for the board games that worked out pretty well :)

Some (in germany) well known comedian/entertainer made a song for the Eurovision Songcontest (annual event where bands accross europe battle for the grand championship - and the people of each land are allowed to raise their voice and vote for their favourites) back in 2000 which was called "Wadde Hadde Dudde Da", something a germany baby would say if it would really mean: "Was hast du da?" (What do you got over there?)

Then there was the TV show "Space: Above and Beyond" back in 1995.
When a friend and myself played Starcraft he used to use Zergs and called himself "Chiggy von Richthofen". That Chiggy guy was an alien ace pilot in that Space TV show so in the german version it got named after WWI ace pilot "Manfred von Richthofen".

Since I thought this was somewhat stupid I've picked up "Wadde Hadde Dudde Da", modified it a little and whenever I came down to destroy his Zerg nest I've always asked him "What do I got heeeere?".

Prior to that I went by lame names like "Mirage" and others.
The 2 in my current name has been a "™" sign, but since ascii signs aren't allowed anymore it got changed.

Meh, people call me "Wadde" anyway. ^^
