Just so i could ask people in-game if they brought The Ring.
On a more serious note, i don't really care for what map i play on, so usually i just tab-out and wait until the match starts.

I often vote Terra Therma when I am farming my vote multiplier. I for one enjoy our new pre-match minigame

Like you I seldom vote. However when my multiplier has gotten past 6, I vote for the hot maps to really mess up the players who build high heat / high alpha mechs....
Their screams of rage are quite delicious....

Just in case someone votes for Terra Therma, so I can lay down my x9000 modifier and stop the madness. Terra Therma is a guaranteed snoozefest, usually resolved within the first two minutes, as soon as one team hesitates to take center.

Basically that is what I save up votes for. Well, that and trying to circumvent Conquest when I can.

If you don't like the current system of voting in the map and/or the type of game in the "quick matches", then I suggest when the the time comes to vote to go ahead and close your eyes and pretend it is back in the PGI random mode and let it be. When you hear the audio cue that a map and mode have been selected then go ahead and open your eyes and play. BAM! Problem solved.
I mean seriously, what is the difference?

I had a match on Terra Therma (skirmish) yesterday where 100% of the fighting took place OUTSIDE of the volcano.
It was a really good match! It is actually a great map if you remove the center volcano, but alas, the PGI map method is to have a dominant central feature to fight around...
Remove the ability to see the vote % in the minigame and it could actually be a good system.

In regards to the Volcano, your team needs to...
1) Push in together and take the center by storm (and not sissy out on the ramp)
2) If the enemy pushes in first in force, withdraw and stay together outside of the volcano. Use the ramp/opening to the volcano as a pinchpoint to focus the enemy or hopefully draw them out 1 by 1 to get picked off. Just watch for a flank.
DO NOT...
1) Stop at the top of the ramp and create a log jam.
2) Trickle in one or two at a time when the enemy is pushing in (often goes hand in hand with (1.)).
Basically, either commit to center or don't as a team. Don't half commit and half don't, or often it is a loss.
In PUG play that is hard to communicate, but always do your best to try and communicate that.

It's like voting Republican in Vermont.
The solo queue will almost always follow this pattern (tier 3 at least)
If it's Skirmish vs any other game mode it will be skirmish
If it's Conquest vs Assault it will be assault that is then played like a skirmish
If HPG manifold is a selection it is chosen (no idea why)
if no HPG then it's the coolest map.
If multiple maps are of equal coolness River City beats Forest Colony
Crimson Straight beats River City
Mining collective may substitute any previously dominant selection.
