T5 old schooler here been playing since beta.
I don't use the forum often so forgive me if this is offtopic or in the wrong place.
I've been searching the forum on this topic, and haven't found anything recent or specific to my questions.
So here it is:
I'm intrested in using a xbox controller for lights because it just seems so much easier for speed compared to a keyboard and mouse.
I have a xbox controller that I've mapped for navigation that seems to work pretty well in the tutorials. But I can't figure out how to assign weapons groups on a controller. Is this possible?
I've got more than enough buttons on this controller to do what I want to. But I don't see any options for firing weapons in the controller customization options.
What am I missing? Please no comments on why I should not be doing this or negative criticism.
Not looking for arguments. Just want to know if there is a way to assign weapons to controller buttons (even with 3rd party software if possible.)
Thanks....

marksmanship is really important and i very much doubt you will get good results with a game pad. i suppose if you are running lerms or streaks, or scatter weapons like srms or lb autocannons its ok. those were the prefered weapons i used when i was still a joysticker. you really need a mouse to aim well, and that opens you up to really high alpha builds that can kill a mech in 2 shots. i moved over to a mouse but i still use my throttle and pedals.
the options you want are in settings under controller. its actually pretty obvious.

Joysticks and game pad are really bad for MWO. Joysticks can be fun, but because of the way PGI have added them they don't work at all. Basically your stick controls a cursor on screen, with mouse acceleration and terrible responsiveness.
That said you should be able to map the controls not under controls, but under controller. I missed it the first couple of times when trying to set up my joystick

Thanks for the feedback. Believe it or not, I've actually been playing this game on a laptop with the touch pad since beta.

I have done the research and testing for you. This is what you want... Use a Fragchuck for analog movement. And you can use it all the time for all mechs. https://world.splitf...uck-pc-mac.html Then use a gaming mouse for aiming.

Actually PPFLD daka, PPCs, and missiles work just fine to some degree or another. It's lasers that are a bit problematic. As such you're hosed if you want to go the laser vomit direction.

Actually just gave it my first run in an arctic cheetah, and I have to say it's the best game I've ever played with a light! could never get used to controlling all that speed with my keyboard and touchpad... Will definitely be playing around with this more.!

JS/controller for piloting, bind f key somewhere and when in combat use mouse with right hand js/controller left. works really well with the joystick since you can run the lever throttle freeing your hand up to hit keyboards or joystick buttons. Makes piloting tasks like running away easier just both hands on the stick.
