based off pictures the goonsquard people use to represent this tetatae bird (also known as the owl parrot, and one of my favorite parrots), it is actualy called a Kakapo bird, and are endangered (theres only about 120 alive in captivity)

I like the idea that I've been playing Battletech since the mid 90's solely so I could prepare to troll these forums and in a couple of months I'll get bored and leave the series. Apparently I'm a master of the long con. Also Squawk.

I've decided to just live up to their expectations. I'm selling my miniatures and pretending I have never heard of this giant mechanoids game (obviously a gundam rip off) and I'm only going to be here for a month to troll the populace.

The world is sick--and we are the doctors,
The world is anemic--we are the vitamin,
The world is weary--but we are the strength,
We are here to make the world healthy once again,
With hard work, with honesty,
With clarity, with decency.

We are the product of loving mothers
And brave fathers,
We are the embodiment of love and bravery,
We are the gift of both God and science,
We are the answer to the question,
We are the promise delivered to all mankind.

For that we raise our hand to one nation,
We step to the beat of one drum,
We are the people who carry the children on our shoulders,
the same way that our fathers carried us,
and their fathers carried them.

We are the one people united and strong,
We are the one people with certainty, moral certainty
We are invincible,
and we have no fear,
Because the truth makes us one.

I suspect all the pubbies are scared because they know how hard us goons will dominate.

We are organised, we have multiple forums/chat servers/voip servers, we are skilled, we are united under a single goon flag and we have dominated every single game we have ever tocuhed.

Yep.

Hold on, I'm filling out my "MWO Forum Goon Related Bingo Card".

Let's see here - rage against goons for existing... mentions of EvE... confusion/anger over the forums costing $10 to register for... affirmation that because it's 12v12 goons won't win because they only ever swarm... Adridos...

I GOT A BINGO!

Apparently my prize is "Sadness".

Edit: I honestly, honestly hope that this constant cycle of goon related gibberish is making someone somewhere happy.

mm, the point of the 12 v 12 comment was simply that the game is not going to be some sort of oPvP type game where you can go destroy the enemies cities / camp them etc. It's going to be a limited team vs team environment and definitely not a "salt and pillage" type of experience.

Also that the point of all "sqwuak" style posting is not serious and is just trolling for reaction.

This is perhaps the most innocuous trolling on the forums. [snip] House Liao now has a bunch of crazy people who think they are birds, or warriors who are birds from a primitive world. [snip]

As a member of House Liao who is not associated with SA or Word of Lowtax, I am getting tired of seeing other people personifying the entire House Liao with the stereotypes that other people have of the SA/WoL crew. ZnSeventeen may not have meant much by their comment, and that's fine, but it happened to make me think back to other posts I've seen that typecast Liao like this.

I spend a decent but not a ton of time on the forums, and I agree that the concerns are innocuous. I originally joined Liao because of the principles of putting one's self second and adversity making them stronger, and I intend to stick with it unless the principles & merits of some other house are vastly more aligned with my own, but it is hard to say until the Founders get unleashed into the MWO wild.

In the meantime, I think the silliness of pre-emptively assuming the in-game motives or underestimating the pilot competence of the SA/WoL crew is best illustrated in this comment:

In conclusion, there is palpable irony that some of the MWO community's handling of SA/WoL has been a catalyst for them to at least somewhat personify the very house that they joined, as evidenced by the Liao faction description:

Quote

A Capellan citizen sees it as his or her duty to serve the nation first and himself second; individual rights are therefore subordinate to the needs of the state. …this simple trait has allowed the Capellan nation to survive and prosper even after the Federated Commonwealth broke its back in the Fourth Succession War. As always, adversity merely strengthens the Capellan Confederation.

I have to admit, the whole thing sounds kind of inviting, but I am already in a few fringe groups, Urbie adorers, mead drinkers and Quad lovers.

And in response to Renegade, I am not suggesting that all Liao's are Tetataes. I said that there will be a bunch. If the entire group of WoL becomes Liao then there will be many, that is fact. That you would deny that is pure silliness. If you simply misread what I said, then I apologize, and will try to be more understandable in the future.

I think the WoL is great, and I hope they are a boon to the CC. That they actually train together and plan is wonderful, I wish more groups would adopt that type of devotion to success and having fun.

God there's so much about the internet I don't know..
I've been seeing "Lowtax" everywhere and until now I thought was a Sarah Palin/Tea-party thing.. :)

Goons I totally get, and actually I think it's a damn funny concept; Get a whole bunch of guys in their starter ships to simply swarm Eve Online - It's like Enemy at the Gates style; When the man in front of you dies take his rifle & overrun them through sheer weight of numbers & everyone who dies as cannon fodder hasn't lost anything of value - It's a genius stroke but can't work in MWO due to the way the game works so isn't worth worrying about let alone arguing over.

As to the whole being a bird thing, ok that's a little odd but canonically, I don't try and rationalise anything real-live opponents do in-game anyway so it can't bother me.
In-game all you're gonna see is a big-bad mech, not a big-bird so why get upset about it?

No one needs to role-play (in my circles that word is only ever used in the kinky sense anyway, nothing to do with computer games) if they don't want to so how can it possibly upset you if the guy from across the world that you're shooting at is pretending to be a bird at his computer; It won't affect you so just let those guys be happy & do their thing.

Damn, maybe I'm just getting too mellow.. Better go shoot some baddies in a computer game! :D

It's pretty great that people think we train together. It's more "argue on Mumble about things unrelated to the game we're playing and stumble around doing dumb **** in game".

Since I'm nothing but a non-playing member of the BT/MW community, I'm going on record as saying that I think The Word of Lowtax, The Goon Squad, the Tetatae role-players are pretty damn funny, irreverent and are more than welcome to call me or Duncan Fisher a pubbie or an old has-been.
When I first heard of them during the No Guts, No Galaxy Podcast, they made me sad :D
When I looked a bit more closely, they made me laugh. Quite a lot, really. :D You may not like their methods, but if you're playing a war-game, the object of the game is to win. Organized groups in a game of this nature are always going to dominate. If you're a one-man wolf pack, good for you and I wish you well in any online multiplayer game.

Many players are mistakenly assuming that they know all about who they are and what they can accomplish. One thing is for sure, the number that they will bring to the "premium player base" would make ANY game developer or publisher VERY happy. I won't be surprised if their "sooper sekrit spyy" members pop up in places where you least expect it and rattle your cage... :)

That's my 2 cents. Back to the cheap seats for me...

Oh look. I "liked" my own post.

I think that's called a Roy Rogers! Ocean's 11 taught me that :D

If people read a bit more and even visited the SA threads they'd find just as genuine Internet robot fans as you will on these forums. I honestly believe people raging over the whole thing need to examine their priorities. Life is far too short to take more than, I don't know, 3 or 4 different things seriously and games aint one of them.

Now I must prepare the supplicative tribute of bonsai to await the arrival of Clan Smoke Trees.

Royal Wave......your explanation of the goons is gold....

Damascus, royal wave forgot the part where some ignorant fools want to roleplay being some stupid bird race in a genre which doesnt support them (or want them)

Im sorry for your loss. They will go away soon (probably when planetside 2 hits) Until then, Good Luck.

Btw as far as I know metro is still around, but doesnt really want to deal with all the "omg gooooooooons" hanging around in cappie space.

Please stop being so pathetic.

We are all here to play a game. That is all.

The sheer lack of friendliness between people is really starting to get on my nerves. I came to just PLAY THE GAME. I play with goons because they are fun to play with, and have been in both EvE and WoT. And they do well at most games they play. They have a strong community and are generally easygoing and friendly. They say silly things, but if those silly things REALLY wind you up, then who is to blame, you or the person who is just being silly?

So stop with the whole elitist attitude, and I'll see you on the battlefield, win or lose. Just have fun. ITS A GAME.

It is good to see that communication has calmed the waters once again. We of the Clan Smoke Trees, who dwell among the thoughts of the past, and expand our minds ever into the future, perceive that all among humans is as the philosopher Hegel taught. A bit of a sappy chap, at times, Hegel's definition of dialectics is none the less key to understanding everything from personal to political processes. Read up on it and stay in school - and that goes double for you, my dear child friend ADDY!

This thread is an outpost, in the chaotic wastes of the Off Topic Discussions forum. Here, we can have civility, peace and trade. In the thread of Clan Smoke Trees there is enlightenment and challenge. Perhaps that is not such a bad situation, to have two strong threads, in one bad forum?

I realize that things have been bad in my absence, but I promise this to you today, children of the badlands, misfits of the Off Topic Discussion forums, that we will stand proud again! That we will post our posts to the heavens, and that the very code of the website shall tremble with awe and terror! (imagine there's like a lot of really cool background music playing for that last part, like something from Lord of the Rings or something) Behold, you rotten scoundrels and destitute bandits, behold! (maybe some like violins for this part, but like really frantic violins) WE shall end this war today (music drops - total silence - then, with a growl) and all who follow shall know our names! (loud, like the loudest ******** ever, cheering from all these muscly people with cool weapons and weird hair and stuff, that all look really pumped up for this war or whatever is going on).

And that, basically, is my interpretive play called "My answer to this thread".

We must understand the politics of our community and we must know what politics is supposed to produce. We must know what part politics play in our lives. And until we become politically mature we will always be mislead, lead astray, or deceived or maneuvered into supporting someone politically who doesn’t have the good of our community at heart.
