I, too, am looking forward to the new CW, with that 4v4 mode (whatever the f*** that is) hoping to add another entry gate for new players into CW/FW. <fingers_crossed>

I'm REALLY excited about the 4v4 mode. That PTS with 4v4 matches was TONS of fun.

It was the... last? of the "Great Rebalance" PTS tests. There wasn't a lot of participation, so they cut it back to 4v4 battles (trying for 1/1/1/1) and it was unspeakably awesome. I loved it. TONS of fun.

Unforgiving, though. Screw up, and you're screwed. You are, after all, 25% of the team.

It was the most fun I've had in MWO in ages.

Experience is a huge part of this game. Simply learning how to set up your weapon groups and know what ranges your weapons are effective at is like memorizing the names of all former presidents, with their birthdays. Add in that knowing that x mech carrying x loadout is probably either running an xl engine, or stripped Alot of armor along with realizing that certain weapons only fit in certain areas on this mech but in this area on this other mech and multiply that by 200 plus mechs .........see it gets complicated. But each step you learn makes you that much better. The best players look at a mech and know from the weapons it carrys that shooting it's left side will strip it of all but one laser and so that's where they shoot. And if they are on a team everyone shoots that side because someone called thentarget. And when you have a team of tier one players in mechs selected to compliment each other who know all of the above facing a group of 6 players with 6 solo drops that downloaded 2 days ago and are in trial mechs a roflstomp ensues. Find a unit, there are quite a few oUT there that train new players. Plenty of fun to be had in the solo q though.

First, 1 or 2 programmers is not „all those“. Second, as a company, they have a responsibility towards their employees, which in turn means, they have to try and built a lasting business model, not a quick cash grab.

Hell, they even said, they couldn't adjust the matchmaker for 10 vs 12 mech teams which was brought to the table as a means of Clan vs. IS balance. At least that was their excuse they didn't even try it on a PTS.

From where I'm looking, PGI has thinned out to Russ, Tina, maybe Paul and 1 or 2 model artists plus their externally hired support staff.

then you have obviously never watched the vlogs, most have Tina + 2 other PGI employees, and other than Tina I do not think anyone has been in more than two, most have only been in one, so with 15 vlogs that makes at minimum 20 employees, I think a few months back (could be longer) they said they had 39 employees and were working on hiring more

So I've been hitting MWO pretty hard lately and I've been really enjoying it and I found out that theirs a lot more to MWO with faction play, except 80% of the time its a PUG group vs a full enemy unit and there is no chance of winning. Why did the devs think this was a good decision? It just seems to alienate people people who don't have a lot of time dedicated to a unit/guild/clan.

It makes more sense to have actual close games, instead of widely one sided battles. I just played a game and we were actually super well quarantined but it wasn't even close. Can they just make a PUG vs PUG and Unit vs Unit system?

So my question is just stick to the "quick play" and not put any real money into other mechs since I don't need drop pod mechs?

Did you not pay attention to or read the warning box on CW when you first went there?

OP that's exactly what I feel.
There should be a system where, if the other team has 3+ ppl from the same clan dont put them against some ppl that saw the pop up and pressed it. It may be a fast way to get meat for the grinder but it is also a fast way to LOSE your most casual/starting players.
Look, I know who makes money for this game, and I bet the playerbase is not that big (unfortunatly) but the only way to make it more attractive (new players) is in your hands, why not a gamemode with respawns that doesnt allow clan stacking? add team scramble etc...
I love the game engine but the players ruin it sometimes.

edit: I have this small suggestion,it would help. If we see the game is lost. If they are camping the dropship... let us surrender, allow a vote to end the game. We are just racking up deaths for no reason, it feels like a punishment for playing.

What it actully is, is punishment for being to lazy to join a unit. Or being to lazy to use voip to coordinate your Team.

So just watched that promo teaser video Russ put in the January roadmap... at the very end of the features splash screen one of the items was "Unit Queues"... so this mean that there'll finally be a unit vs unit land for them to romp amongst themselves come January 19th? Does that help solve this whole issue or no?

Maybe to a limited degree. My understanding (and I could be off base) is that the unit queue will be where everyone who wears a unit tag will drop in CW, whether you are by yourself of with a full 12-man. The solo queue will be reserved for players who are not in units - true pugs. I'm assuming you wouldn't be able to join a group to drop in the solo queue, even if you were all not in units. You would have to go in alone, just like Quick Play. Sync dropping would still seem possible, though.

Now, if you're in a unit and choose to drop alone, you still go into the Unit queue and stand the chance of facing full groups. If you want to make sure you don't encounter a group of any kind you'd have to leave your unit before dropping in CW - which seems a little over-the-top, honestly.

Someone tell me if I misunderstood. I asked this question on our TS last night and this was the answer I got.

I've been dabbling with community/faction warfare recently, during the Tukayyid 2 and Holiday events. I've actually had quite a lot of fun there, and IMO CW is quite a bit better than its reputation. My experience is as a "pug", not in an organized team.

It is true that you can face organized teams in CW, and those games are tough. But, in my experience that's not most games. Most games seem to be pug-vs-pug, and those are generally quite closely fought. I've drifted up to Tier 2 in PSR where solo-queue games themselves get kind of tough, and for me, paradoxically, most CW games are in fact easier and more relaxing than solo-queue games.

CW is currently still in "beta" stage, and it's essentially just a single planetary-conquest game mode where you fight over an orbital cannon. It'll be much expanded in the coming months as the "Phase 3" of CW comes out. To me, the current CW game mode is fun for what it is, and gives some variety to my MWO experience.

About the whole units vs. pugs debate. IMO there are some regrettably bad attitudes on both sides of this argument. Some (but not most) of the unit guys argue that as the facilities for forming units, teamspeak, etc., exist for all, it's fair and square that they face pug teams and that it's the pug teams' own fault if they lose. They're technically correct that the pugs could get better organized, but then that's true for any sport. This is equivalent to pitting a casual Division 5 football team against a Div. 3 team, and after the inevitable result, telling the Div. 5 team to also start training five times a week.

Ultimately, I think CW will need some kind of a match-maker to keep the big, organized units playing each other only. This is a rudimentary thing and routinely done in virtually all competitive sports, but thus far not in CW. I believe some type of match-making it will happen in Phase 3 and that's good. The simple truth is that most MWO players will always be casuals, and it's not necessary to admonish them for it. And CW will never, ever be viable without the casual population.

TL;DR: to me CW is in fact fun. You get a new game mode, new maps, and a bit of variety to your MWO play. But in its current form, you will often -- but not most times -- get games against organized units which are virtually impossible to win. Only you can decide whether that's a deal-breaker for you. I just deal with it and set some personal goal for those games (be in top-3 in my own team, 1000 damage, etc.).

Join a unit. There are lots of all sorts of units, casual, hardcore, competitive, whatever. They'll teach you, practice with you.

Need to correct this a bit... You don't need to join a unit to have a more successful time at CW.

Did a solo drop and happen to drop with a group that knows how to win at CW ?
Ask them whether you could join them in their group drops..

They will most likely gladly take you as the more you get to 12man... The faster you can drop.

Even though I have my own unit.. I drop with TCAF and random Liao merc/groups all the time.. Posted Image

There is no problem that CW is "hardmode" the Problem is that the game calls random people with pop ups, like calling them to a tutorial when it's not.
They should only call "normal players" when a team with 8+ clan NEEDS players, dont form an entire team of new players.

If being in a faction is so important, where is the clan list to choose and apply?

What can I add to CW, as someone said, many maps are BAD; the mode has potential but it feels empty of purpose; MANY ppl have no idea what destroying omega is, or even the damn gates; and CW even lags for me. For all of this and because Quickplay is actually fun I won't be doing anymore CW.

Even though I say this, CW is the future of MWO, when they/If they can implement PVE.

The Clans are right after the houses. Just scroll on past the Inner Sphere factions an you can join the Clans.
