So with the steam package mech sale in MWO. I have one question. What timber wolf variant should i get? I have the C (S) and the S. I was looking at the A but one unit member said either Prime or D.

Well, the Prime gets you a unique CT, which is something (the A and D are identical), but really... who cares about a CT machine gun, as that's the only thing you can put there. Eh.
From there, I'd go either D if you prefer missile builds (the D has 2M side torsos without wasted tonnage on JJ's) or A if you like the awesome 3E shoulder mounted energy mount... But as you can buy those omnipods for any timberwolf, ultimately it just doesn't matter.

Well thing is. My S variant has SRM's. I could make the D a LRM boat.

A, C and D are the same (as far as CT goes), and you can swap the omnipods around as you like. If you think you'll use missiles a lot, get the D, if you want the high energy left torso, grab the A, but you can always swap omnipods later.
If you like machine guns, the prime gets the CT ballistic, but you're usually better off twisting between shots than using machine guns continuously.

I found this article about good Timber Wolf builds:
http://metamechs.com...-wolf/?lang=eng
It seems to me you can craft most of these builds with C, Prime and S. Correct ?

I like having 3 Machine Guns (Prime RT, Prime CT, S LT) so I would take the Prime, that way you will have the 3 unique CTs.

I personally do not want machine guns on my Madcats. Which is weird, cuz I love em on my Blackhawks now. Anyways pay no mind to meta mechs unless that's the playstyle you want. I know more'n one pilot whose regretted their purchases made from accepting advice without considering the source.
