Dropped with a guy last night in cw who didn't even know how to pick a planet to drop on. Was in almost all trials, plus a locust.

He proceeded to do 1200 damage and 4 kills, followed the drop call precisely.

We have begun cloning him to replace all other Davion pugs.

Rolled up to the gate and almost the entire team started to shoot it to try and open it. Face palm!!!

On the attacking team:

Ist drop. 11 players gather up at gate (after destroying turrets) for the big push while the 12th player destroys the Gate Generator. Gate proceeds to open and standing directly in the middle of the gate opening was a single Cheetah. INSTANTLY VAPORIZED!! Have never seen a mech go down so fast... Other enemy players were no where in sight.

Would have made an interesting scout report... Posted Image

Cheers!

It has only happened a couple of times, but I like it when someone calls me out personally as a cheater from the other team.

I've had it happen after a head shot. While I KNOW where the cockpit is on most mechs, and I do AIM for it whenever possible the one in 10,000 times it DOES hit it is a good feeling that is only compounded by the salt I got to add to my collection.

I also was called out once by a guy with a major situation awareness problem who really died to my dire wolf teammate who had walk RIGHT UP to his back and one shot him while he was busy facing/focusing on me. Since his death had nothing to do with 'my' skill it made the salt taste even saltier.

I've seen a five man of 1st Hussars shoot the gate and not the generator, then scream loudly in VoIP that nobody was helping them open it. At least one was a founder.

I had a guy try and team kill me for being 'AFK' because I was in the drop zone. I was just dropping in my second mech, and was certainly not AFK.

Some founder explain to a new player in VoIP that his single AC/10 King Crab was better than the UAC/5 trial because it wouldn't run out of ammo. He didn't break 300 damage that match.

Numerous people trying to tell me that I shouldn't poke against IS as Clan, and vice versa. Apparently both factions are OP at this.

Tons of people telling me that they are losing because whatever faction is OP, while dropping LRMs and other trash.

A SWOL 12 man trying to tell me that they never lose now they've gone IS. They then lost to our bunch of pugs.

...pug vs pug match
...2 different players drop calling loudly different instructions on VOIP
...match is in middle when one types some instructions other replies not to listen to him
...both say they have muted/blocked the other in the past and to ignore the other
...match is won
...both players proclaim victory in spite of the other
...pugs calmly state they listened to both and picked orders that made most sense for them
...both players leave in what appears to be a fast huff
...i giggle enough during match to pull a muscle in my neck.. but was worth it

Straight off the bat "What do we have to do?"

Followed by "I can't seem to get into the base?"

Followed by a rant by a PUG that blamed the organised 10 man group for 1. not following his tactics and 2. resulting in his speedy death Posted Image

Yeah got to love players like that.. ..I had one guy that did around 500 damage keep calling me towards the end of the match, I was doing the wrong thing apparently.. ..according to the 2,400 damage and fact that it was my only mech AND we won...

...some players just cant resist taking out their own self-frustration on others.. Posted Image

Pugging, Counter-attack.
1st Wave went well enough, though we were down 10 -12.
2nd wave, went a little better, we kill omega & tie game in kills at 24-24 (importantly we have damaged their 3rd wave mechs).
Unnamed PUG tells team to not go in and hold at drop ships, i repeatedly tell team we need to get kill lead, but unnamed PUG refutes this & tells me i dont know what i am talking about and for everyone to not go in, which is exactly what the team does. I tell them we can easily get the kill lead as i know their current mechs are damaged, we can kill their 3rd wave and then if people want team can retreat with the lead in hand. Unnamed PUG again tells the team to hold still outside, with the game tied we will lose and enemy team is not going to push out, so i do the only thing i can do, i go in alone and whilst nearly scoring a few kills, i do die to focused fire. I then tell the team in chat now they have to push into the enemy team (we are 1 down). Unnamed PUG curses me as the team finally forced to push goes in and gets a nice lead 36-32.

Near the end of the game the Unnamed PUG tells me how bad i am for throwing my mech away, only for the end game score card to show he scored 1 kill and 460 damage compared to my team topping 2750 damage and 11 kills.

I have seen this happen a couple of times too. 1st was a Hunch back and cant remember the other mech, but both went down really fast. What makes people think standing right in the middle of the opening gates alone will be a good idea?

That was your mistake. He didn't learn from that. Should have let him have his way. Shame and humiliation are the quickest teachers.

Ace,

Your story is exactly what I am talking about in my OP. Not so much the crazy behaviors -in and of themselves- but the vehement refusal of folks to understand the basic aspects of game play when told how the game play actually works.

Sure we can all have noobs join a group, watch them do something stupid (shoot the gate not the generator, etc.) but normally once you explain the error ("hey guys, shooting the gate doesn't do anything. You have to come over here on this rise and shoot the generator to get the gate to open. Follow me and I will show you."), have a quick laugh; they get it and move on and take that lesson with them. That's how we learn and train new players. Excellent.

But what I am seeing an awful lot of...and what my old man brain is having conniptions about...is situations where one or several people are doing something really stupid, and yet when someone patiently and without malice or even sarcasm explains the situation to them/instructs them on the correct way of doing something; they respond in the the most intransigent and/or offensive way possible.

Its like ignorance really is a defensive weapon and the more aggressive and hostile you are at wielding that ignorance the better. Hope what I am seeing is the vast minority of experience.

Being stupid is like being dead: it's tough on others, not yourself. That being said I also have a hard time understanding those people ...

... some clearly have no idea what they're talking about, but they will have a very clear point and defend it. They never thought they could be wrong, but they are and will not be convinced whatever one says. At this point I stop trying to help, stop talking to the person since that's a lot easier and healthier.

Now, I'm not sure why I get the impression there are more people like that than ever (in general and not only in MWO ? maybe I'm just getting old and cranky ?) but I know that we should not let those extreme examples defeat us by making us cynical (if so, the terrorists win).

But I do the think those extreme nincompoops should be laughed at. Like gloowa said "Shame and humiliation are the quickest teachers."

that remind me of this one time:

I was in my LCT-1V and we were up against Davion pugs. I was in their base and only died due to them finally getting annoyed with my sniping. meanwhile my team was on their 3rd mech.
