Let me start with I was invited into MWO towards the end of closed beta. A battletech buff naturally I was excited and I did play thousands of matches in the "archive" time since. Id jump back and forth from MWO to Firefall, both were heavy development along the same timeline. Eventually MWO's balence issues and repetitive nature drove me off from really playing hear and being in the community.
Around the time UI 2.0 launched I unofficially left MWO where over the course of the time since I became essentially the leader of Firefalls PvP community. Organizing and running 4-6 hour long dev sponsored events with dev sponsored rewards ranging from 200-600$ in game goodies and currencies. Well as some of you may of saw in the gaming news recently that Red5 (studio of Firefall) has had all sorts of industry snake stuff going on.
Well I did my typical drop into MWO for a month or so recently and I really got to say: This is really fantastic. It almost makes me wish I didn't spend 100 some odd days of gameplay into said other game. Everything is crisp. The world designers revamped the maps to make combat feel right and their familairness with the cryengine is more than apparent in their great work.
The community moderators do monthly road maps, feedback, Sean podcasts, giveaways, knows his game well and enjoys their work which is really important.
The combat designers have overcome obstacle after obstacle. Yes b aelence has swayed from left to right over time, and then back forth again and it can be fusterating but these guys have the task of balancing a game that receives almost none stop content and with dozens of mechs and variants of each, really they've accomplished something I've personally never saw in a F2P model or even a triple A title. Yeah we still have some issues but its nothing like the days of 8 man ECM D-D Atlas drops.
I think I may be back to MWO for good, I just want to give another shout out to PGI for keeping a series and fandom we all love and enjoy alive. Even if you disagree with me, a MW game is better than none right?
Hats off to PGI, congratulations on the steam launch and cheers to years of development to make a solid mechwarrior modern experience. o7
