Ever since MWO came out, I've played WoT a lot less. Sure, I'm a huge BattleTech and MechWarrior fan to begin with, but I love MWO a lot more as a game.

I play WoT when I need to scratch that old tank itch, but Armored Warfare feels like a better game than WoT even in its open beta state. Still though, I'm playing MWO more than Armored Warfare.

One of the things I hate about WoT and Armored Warfare are repair costs. Even though they seem to be less in Armored Warfare, it really kills the fun and desire of running higher-tier tanks when I'm running the risk of losing in-game credits while trying to grind credits for other tanks I've unlocked. I don't have that problem with MWO.

I played Armored Warfare (modern WOT clone) for a few weeks and all the same points applies to MWO vs AW, except AW arguably has somewhat better maps.

The most annoying thing was RNG (armor penetration should depend on where you hit, not what you roll) and enemy units not being visible at all until the game decided you successfully made a Perception roll, like you're playing D&D.

AW did have a lot of positives over MWO, to be sure. But they didn't make up for the fundamental problems that AW shares with WOT.

Those game AW WOT appealed to me until i saw silhouette through cover and third person only. That's an icy cold shower i can't ever warmup after. During closed beta i posted in AW to ask if there ever would be a game mode without seeing through cover and with inside gameplay and the answer was no.

While I can see how many of the OP's points could be frustrating, the WoT devs have a reason for doing things they way they do. Tanks are completely different fighting machines with completely different capabilities. That being said, it wouldn't be much fun to have the same mechanics used with both games. They are two completely different games, so to say one is better than the other is to say you think oranges are better than apples. Why can't they both be enjoyed?

I tried to play WoT on my PC, but the game I really like is the mobile version. There's no artillery, and the maps and matches are a lot more fast-paced, and it feels like less of a grind with only 7v7. You can make a bigger difference in each match, but conversely, each death has more of an impact.

Who's to say one is better than the other? They are two completely different games. Try comparing Hawken to MWO if you're going to say one is better than the other, because WoT and MWO are not comparable.

I've played World of Tanks for about five years, have three Tier Xs, and have spent hundreds of dollars on premium content. Let me tell you, the MechLab in MWO is better than just about everything in WoT (and I say that as someone who used to enjoy Tanks quite a bit).

Yea I'm starting to see the light. I have over 17 tier 10 tanks and have alot of premium tanks as well but MWO offers somethings that WoT will never have.

Yes but sometimes the reason they do the things they do is because their BigWorld engine sucks bad. It puts a hard limitation on map size and tank speed. That brings to mind another point. MechWarrior runs 64-bit and could possibly use more than just 1 core. WOT needs to move to Havoc engine ASAP. Instead of upgrading their game WG.net made an airplane and warship game which left the tank game hanging IMHO.

I have dropped World of Tanks. Too much power creep. I like the maps though, there is far superior utilization on them than MWO, since skirmishes happen all over the maps, rather than on one or two single spots. War Thunder though, has far better maps on the ground, especially the last six maps they had (Hurtgen forest, Berlin, Stalingrad, Tunisia, El Alamein, Finland). El Alamein got to be the most gorgeous land map I ever feasted my eyes on.

I am currently Level 97 on War Thunder and moving to 98. Level 100 is my goal as well as getting 10,000 aerial kills and 10,000 tank kills. But my playing there has become sporadic due to playing more time now in World of Warships.

This year, my MWO play has dropped off organically, and my WoWs play has picked up to the point it now dominates my online time. For something that comes from Wargaming, WoWS is just so different from WoT --- large expansive maps that are all just visually gorgeous. There is a strong sense of role warfare in WoWs that is so much more differentiated than any game I have picked up. A battleship is truly a battleship, a destroyer is a destroyer. A carrier is an RTS game within an shooting game, while cruisers are jack of all trades. The strategies and tactics for each class are so different from each other. The models are absolutely gorgeous, a lot of little things show up when they are zoomed in, like life savers, lifeboats tied to the turrets.

Another thing is that the TTK on WoWs is so long, you can finish 20 minutes with ships surviving on both sides, even with its single spawn system. That is why unlike other games where kills are common and cheap, a kill in WoWs is never easy, and is an achievement. But so far I am around 2.0 in K/D but my W/R needs to improve. I enjoy going around with my Imperial Navy Japanese cruisers, destroyers and battleships (they are still the faction to beat) bringing glory to the Emperor. Banzai! Banzai!

I tried to get back into World of Tanks. But after playing MWO. It just felt like the combat wasn't as dynamic. Too many matches spent crowding around a corner trying to trade pop shots. Or hiding in a bush. Or actually trying to do some maneuvering and just getting blasted by campers.

MWO is by far the better game. I my self used to play WoT for a bit but what turned me off is basicly exactly what the OP said. That and when you first start out in WoT you are basicly nothing more than cannon fodder for the older players to pad their stats on top of the fact that even when you know what you are doing you are still made to feel like your existance is pointless simply because the other guys simply played/paid enough to get tanks that are simply better. Its infuriating.
In MWO you can be a noob and as long as you know what you are doing you can make any mech work for you such as a Locust and actually feel like you contributed.

I really enjoyed the open beta in WOT. We got free gold every day. I played the Russian tanks and has an IS 7. It was good times. Then the beta was over. The grind, oh hell that grind. I couldn't get near my old favorite monster.

MWO is a very different animal. I can move and shoot, no more camping endlessly in a tree I knocked down. I know that my guns will hurt anyone I shoot. I liked the armor penetration system in WWII Online. That was a glorious game in its day. This system is better,no tiers, grind is very manageable and I don't need gold ammo to play with a unit in CW. Heck in WOT you had to buy premium time to group with friends.

MWO is the better game.

Hello friends,

I'm new to MWO but have been thoroughly enjoying it. I'm a huge fan of armoured vehicles and have thousands of logged hours in over 30,000 games in World of Tanks, which I have been playing since 2011. I can't quite put my finger on why I feel like MWO is a superior game to WoT but here are a few of my ideas. I know it is comparing apples to oranges but I need to get this off my chest.

Hi welcome to MWO.

*PS2 is the only true MMOFPS that manages to put thousands of players on one huge world that includes infantry, vehicles and airpower
*PS2 broke the world record for simultaneous players in one map (1,158)

Imagine a MWO CW like PS2. One massive map, hundreds of players (or more) shredding each other with combined arms (air, mechs, ground vehicles, pilotable static defensive emplacements), with the faction controlling the most territory at the end of an attack window taking the planet. Add in logistics and other meaningful features to the taking and controlling of worlds and I'd get a second job just to throw money at PGI.

I know it's a dream, but it's good to have dreams. Maybe MW:O 2.

The only reason World of Tanks has players is because they havnt tried MechWarrior Online yet. I never played world of tanks because its lame. Tried World of Warships and its lame. Tried Warthunder and it is playeable or a few hours but is lame also.

MechWarrior Online needs ALOT of work still and is half a game but its way better than any other pure shooter out there. Easily.

The only competition MechWarrior Online does have at the moment is Planetside and that game doesn't have the staying power or potential MechWarrior Online has. Planetsides problems they will never address.

I thought WoT had players because russians and germans really REALLY like their tanks.

Tanks are...kinda boring.Posted Image

Now giant stompy robots from a franchise I have loved since a kid, much more interesting.

Sure a lot of the MWO love is nostalgia for me, but I still don't find tanks to be all that intriguing.

WoT is a strait-up grindfest.

I see how WoT and MWO could compete for the same market niche of people who have limited time slots on their hands and want vehicular combat PvP experience. But otherwise there just is no comparing the two.

Wow it's 2012 again I guess :P

I play both and enjoy both as they service different fanbases/content. I'll never understand the idea that you have to be in one camp or another, especially regarding two vastly different products.

Anyone else remember all the "MWO will kit WoT" threads in the tanks general forums? Good times :D

WoT was just too grindy for me honestly. Your'e stuck in the same tank for weeks if not months (especially if you play casually) just to get a singular new tank at higher tiers.

Just not much fun for me personally in that regard. The game player itself is fun though. I enjoy the armored warfare aspect but agree that thw whole RNG on whether you do damage on a direct hit is a bit ridiculous. As well as not even being able to cause ANY damage to enemy tanks many times simply because they're a higher tier and your weapons aren't "strong enough"

Just not for me, but it's a fun game to roll around in from time to time.

No, but I do remember the
(insert whatever bandwagon is currently popular here) will kill MWO threads over the past 3 years so I know EXACTLY what you mean.

The grind in WoT was insane, back when I was playing. And it's a lot more different to MWO. You need lots of money to go up in tier and huge sum of XP as well. While trying something new is fun, on later tiers playing one tank for weeks just to unlock new cannon so you can unlock new tank is immensly boring.

In MWO you can try any chasis you like and even 3 variants to Elite are faster to grind than tier 7+ WoT vehicle.

Also, amount of punishment for you mistake is enourmous. Make wrong move, and artillery or tank hunter one-shots you. Bush camping is real, even more than in MWO.
