Okay so my current laptop is nowhere near capable enough to handle decent, reliable, and fluidly smooth enough framerate to handle this game at 900p at medium settings... so anything from the current generation will almost certainly be an upgrade for me.

However, I really do want to enjoy this game with a bit more detail without much of an issue...


Said laptop has the following specs:


i5-6300HQ
8GB RAM
4GB GTX 960M
256GB SSD
1080p

I don't think I'll have much of an issue, but I wanna be sure here before I pull the trigger...

The 960M is going to be the slow part on your rig. On high, you'll probably be sitting in the 40's - 50's FPS.

Yea the M GPU will be your limiting factor, hard to say really.

I'm betting you will be able to play but i doubt it will be better then medium settings FPS wise.

Absolutely No. My laptop struggles on medium/low
I get 40-50 on mining but 25-35 Forrest and Frozen Day

I spent $1400 on my previously mentioned laptop with higher specs but it just doesn't work with this game. It has no trouble with gta5 or fallout 4, but it just doesn't like MWO. I've tried every combination of settings out there. It's this game, they've really messed up somewhere along the line with it.

I get over 60fps when I play with a 960M but then again I have a 6th gen I-7 processor.
Fallout 4 on Ultra settings.

Wait... aren't the mobile i5 parts only dual cores with hyperthreading? You might have some issues mate. If you already own it though give it a go.

Frequency is a little low on that processor. MWO likes 4+ghz. You might be able to OC it.

You're looking at mixed medium+high settings with an i5 laptop. With a higher-clocked i7 mobile CPU and a 970M there would be the possibility of high settings but you might not be able to expect 60fps all the time because... well... MWO likes to eat CPU cycles and laptops have heat problems. That CPU is going to get pushed and then throttle in a laptop. Coolers help, and some clever config changes help, but expecting 60fps with everything on high on a laptop is expecting a bit much without upping the budget.

i5 and i7 are both quad core. i7 is divided virtually in to 8 cores. The problem is thermal throttling and low ghz on laptop processors.

try get a video benchmark score over 4000 here

the 960m is only pulling 1663 . Make sure when you compare your comparing the laptop version of the cards. as in "960m" not the 960 as it will be faster.


Look for a latop with a 980m 970m 780m(or others check the list)

Some of use travel for work and use our gaming laptops for work and play when on the road.

I had an MSI G60 Ghost with an i74710HQ, 970m, and 12GB RAM. It runs the game in DX11 with everything except particles on Very High (particles on medium) and MSAA at about 40 FPS.

I've been living out of a backpack for a year and I'm playing on 3rd world hotel wifi. It's not completely by choice.

I'd like to point out that even during full stress tests, Furmark and Prime95 running, the CPU never peaked above 80*C.

Anyway, it's all I can afford, and a GTX 960M is a HELL of a lot better than what I'm using right now. Compare the 960M to a GTX 560M and tell me it's still incapable of gaming in MWO.

Why are you opting for a laptop? Get a desktop that can handle the stress. Laptops are designed for school and work, not for gaming, regardless of what Alienware / Dell tell you.

Of course it'll be better, but I'm using a gtx960m with a 3.6 i7 on my laptop and it has trouble with low/med settings.

I'm running an Alienware Area51 (about 2 months old) and noticed MWO DOES NOT like the tri-card setup. On high it drops to 30fps.... when on a single card 55-60fps.
