Yes, I do like poking fun at this community because it is so serious. We get the joke, don't you.

I think you're missing what's going on and that's part of the problem.

For some people trading trash talk on the forums is fun. Same reason watching Conor McGregor trash talk is fun. None of this is personal - I don't know any of you. It can't be personal. I have no doubt SWOL is full of ordinary good natured gamer guys, just like everyone else here.

The problem is that YOU are not getting the joke. You come at this like an outsider when the reality is you're every bit part of the exhibit that everyone else is. Everyone here is laughing at everyone else. Nobody is 'raging'. The only 'raging' I do is when PGI does something particularly stupid, that makes me face-palm sometimes.

The community isn't serious. Even the people who act serious aren't really serious. How can they be? This is all pretendy-fun-time games. Everyone pokes you guys because you think you're on the outside looking in and laughing when the reality is you're just in the next exhibit over.

Don't take your trying to be funny so seriously.

You know Duck, you are right. People should not take time to be interested in their hobby or past time. And lord knows we have WAY too many people involved in the community. I mean really, we just have too many people playing the game. They should just silently play the game and not pay any attention to the people around them.

What I don't understand is why some units can't accept that they aren't very good -- because they choose to be inclusive and focus on fun rather than meta. If you are going to accept everyone into your guild and you aren't going to mandate that they drop in specific mechs with specific builds then you have to expect that you are not going to perform as well as those units who do -- period.

IMHO, being open, inviting and cherishing the fun of playing the game in all its variety is much better than being able to claim that you are super good at moving your mouse around and pressing keys on a keyboard.... Kinda not the same thing as discovering a new medicinal cure or revolutionary new theorem.

No one cares how you do in a pug, but rankings of competitive teams do matter, after all they are competitive by definition, and within that comMunity its quite important. Dont hate on guys because they are gettinf more out of this gane than you are. It just makes you sound like a whiney troll :j

Look, Blue Duck. I am sure SWOL is all good guys. Wish you all nothing but the best. I'm doing a CW tour right now (endless search for the best ingredients for the Arbys menu) and maybe we'll drop together, it'll be fun.

Nothing on the forums is serious. How could it be? We're largely a group of grown men playing a big stompy robot simulation of a game we played when we were kids. This forum is like a tiny step up from a bunch of guys in their 30s and 40s doing a GI Joe LARP and cosplay. It's only funny on the internet, in person it would be creepy as ****.

Hence even 'nice things' here are of dubious sincerity because, again, we don't actually know each other. SWOL is a big target so you get teased a lot.

However, really and truly. Nothing but <3 to you guys. Hope you play, hope you have fun and if you're stuck at work or waiting on a ghost drop come here to Salty Nerd Town for a couple quickplay rounds of ForumWarrior.

Just try to bring a more meta deck.

I'm far from 1337 amazballz at this game. But Battletech, and by extension, mechwarrior holds an important place in my heart. It's one of the few positive ties I have to my biological father. It kept me sane through college, and it's been a long time favorite game series.

Just because you don't find yourself invested in this game, others of us are, we care about the universe, or the game in a way maybe you don't get. And that's ok... but it's not your place to tell us to stop caring.
