fu*k steam, its just doubling up on DRM with the added bonus of bucket loads of crud early access garbage to sift through.

they are responsible for some of the worst trends in game development in decades.

so yeah, fu*k steam.

SteamOS performance is HORRIBLE compared to Windows performance. Why would you want to switch? Makes absolutely zero sense.

They would have to update to a newer version of Cryengine, first, which I don't see happening anytime soon.

To be fair... PGI basically popularized the early access model...

Granted PGI actually built a game...

You guys obviously don't understand what's happening in the computer or gaming industry.

Keep your eyes closed it hurts less that way.

Yeah, ditch the most popular PC OS, that will definitely not backfire in any way. Posted Image

it wouldn't surprise me if part of the licensing agreement is that they aren't allowed to port to steam/linux because, you know, Microsoft.

I'm not saying that's the case, but it wouldn't surprise me.

Or since SteamOS runs like shite investing the resources (and we know that PGI's are scarce) is not an option. HBS's Battletech will be ported so...

Get out of here, Gabe, and do some code for Half-Life 3 or something.

SteamOS is basically linux. Which means switching all rendering to use OpenGL instead of DirectX. If there's even a linux-native Cryengine port, and if there is, who knows what kind of performance hit that might cause.

I'm a linux enthusiast. I love it. And I think this is a horrible idea.

Sorry but it really won't ever be linux, Microsoft is leasing the mechwarrior video game rights to PGI and doesn't want it on anything other than Microsoft products.

Greedy SOBs.

True, but that's because linux is a major player in the cloud and Microsoft wants to make money off of it (as a service).

But currently the desktop linux wouldn't make them any money, so they are inclined to snub it.
