If you go into the mech lab & take out all the weapons (for instance you make a H-back a LM Boat ans take out the AC 20) will it change the way the mech looks?

I've seen in-game pictures of a Dragon with different autocannon barrels (one was the rotary) which suggests that mechs will reflect the weapons you fitted them with to at least a certain extent..
Edit: I would guess that on your Hunchback it will always have the huge right shoulder cannon block even if you remove the weapon there. That's the structure of the mech no matter whether there's a weapon in there or not.

If you look at the mechlab footage it does not change.

First off you can't change a Hunchie into a missile boat so your point is mute. You might want to go back an read the devs postings on how weapon exchanges will be worked out. This is also why your mech won't change in appearance.

wile you cant change a stock hunch to the laser version you can buy it and it will look different to the ac20 version. From earlier dev q&a I remember reading that their goal is to make it so when you switch an AC20 to lets say a Gauss rifle or UAC5 the mech would show some minor differences. They did say this was planed for post launch.

I would hope that if you change a medium laser to a large the in game appearance of the mech would reflect that.
Mainly because Id like to see that the mech Im facing has a different load out than i expected.

What about the HBK-4J or HBK-4N?

Because of the hardpoint customization system, the overall profile is unlikely to change. However, small details might. For instance, when switching from an LRM-20 to an SRM-6 the number of visible tubes might change. Switching from one laser to another probably won't change anything though. Laser to PPC might...
For a major profile change on the same 'Mech, you would have to buy a different variant. As an example, the C1 and K2 variants of the Catapult have different profiles due to switching from LRM launchers to PPCs as main armament.
