I threw a ***** fit earlier in Teamspeak when I hit a ebonjag with 2 ppcs and 600m and watched as the poppet showed no indication of damage.

I hit him in his CT while me and him were standing still and the 2 shots just didn't register.

Moments later I was informed that PPCS are not working properly and sometimes aren't registering. Is this true? Or just a one off bad luck.

I wouldnt be surprised if its bugged.. the ac20s were horribly bugged like that as well. You'd pop 2 20s in someones CT and they would hit but do 0 dmg.

was it group fired or chained?

Hitreg when group firing PPCs is questionable, at best. Much better hitreg single fire.

It's not as bad as some people claim, been playing this last week with my Quad ER-PPC warhawk to get some trainning back after a whole year gone, and i can still put 400-800 ish damage per match.

Of course i also noticed a couple of wonky hitregs sometimes but since some mechs are overquirked in the Structure department i can't say 100% sure damage didn't register or just the mech was capable to soak it quite better than before.

seems to vary by match.

Had one tonight were probably 75% of shot group shots did not register.
Next match seemed like most to all did.

YMMV but considering how I've had matches that should be laying out 600+ dmg in my warhammer registering a whopping 300.......

PPCs in this game have always been wonky with Hitreg.

If you and the target are standing pretty much still it seems to work a lot better, I dunno if it is with the netcode or something else but I recommend taking them off.

Remember that PPCs are more similar to ballistics than energy weapons.

Pretty hard to trust PPC's especially when you're in a situation where you need that damage.

In the old days before ghost heat though you could manage almost non stop 4ppc alpha on a stalker, so who cares if some dont register. But now, they are too hot for you to waste heat on not registering damage, cant trust em'

Yeah, there are and have been for some time hitreg issues with PPC's of all types. It varies in severity, but absolutely is affected by how many you fire simultaneously and moreso if they are grouped tightly together.

Older IS mechs where multiple weapons would "share" hardpoints (there'd only be one barrel, due to basic graphics and hardpoints inflation) it was REALLY bad.

But even today, the more PPC's you fire, the sketchier they get.

Yeah, PPCs don't like to register if another heavy weapon is hitting the 'mech so often times (well maybe 5% of the time but too much) if you group fire you'll only get 1, or even no hit(s). It happens if you fire an AC20 and then a PPC immediately afterward as well.

Best bet: chain fire and wait half a tic in between shots, even if his back is turned and you want to pour it on.

You know... If they buff PPCs damage but make the 'not-registering' consitent with known chance (like inverted crits) to gring back average damage, that will make PPCs a bit different from other weapons. Might be interesting. Not that any other weapon with physical projectile should have the chance of ricochet or 'no-explosion' (missiles?), but should've added some more interest and adrenaline.
