I like to hear how people choose screen names. You have a chance to rename yourself, to create a whole new identity, whats behind your choice.

I often get asked what kind of Tractor I drive. I do operate heavy equipment but that is not where I got the name. Funny though, redneck as I am, I refer to any big equipment with tires as tractors.

Im a hardware geek, I live for nuts and bolts and give my creations silly names because life should be fun.
I worked with some friends to build a server we used as a torrent tracker for educational material. Low budget and jokingly got dubbed Project J.O.E. (Just Ordinary + Extras) So after we closed down I used it for mining and my boy popped off one day with this thing farms coin like a tractor. New purpose new name, Tractor Joe.

Hands down my favorite piece of equipment I ever built, right up their with my '78 Ford F350 swamp logger Ol' Iron Sides, she really did float.

So my name here is a Tribute. I played a lot on my boys account before I made my own and when trying to pick a name we came up with this because Im a Just Ordinary pilot + Extras in my bag of dirty tricks and I farm cbills like a Tractor.

So there you have it.

In 2000, Counter-Strike came to Mongolia. Suddenly I have a need for a game name. El Bandito just clicked. Been using the same name for 15 years.

Ever since I was a kid, I used "Kerrdog" or "Nightmare" when playing on a LAN network with family and friends. I lived so far out in the sticks that we didn't have high-speed Internet; just dial-up and then eventually satellite. It was only within the last two years that we've had high-speed Internet where we live.

Anyways, Kerrdog and Nightmare were used depending on the game. Tactical or strategic games usually saw me using Kerrdog, while FPS types saw me using Nightmare. When I started playing online games, it just seemed to make sense to keep using those names. Kerrdog is an RL nickname of mine, while Nightmare is something I chose back when I was a kid playing Star Wars Republic Commandos. It was based on 38's line, "You've got to learn that I'm a lot scarier than you are!"

I was drunk one night and making a screen name for a new game, and as it was an MMO I had to go through several dozen names to find something not already taken.

After that I made a bunch of friends in that game and they dragged me into MWO so I wound up keeping it because that's how they knew me.

Then I made more friends here who know me as this, and ...

You get the point.

Been using this name since I was a wee nipper too in love with pokémon for my own good. I used it going into Star Was Galaxies which I played religiously from day one to the day it was shut down and it stuck. It's now even used as a nickname RL. To the point only my parents and strangers call me by my real name. It's kinda strange, actually.

I've used this or LilPika in pretty much every single game I have ever played in the last 20 years or so.

This name followed me from a bass player forum that used to be part of my daily routine. A combination of my preference for hollowbody basses and Fender Bassman amplifiers.

My name is completely made up and total gibberish. It dont mean anything.

I used to always use the name -Jax- for FPS games, but one day I years ago was trying to create a new account for some game I dont even remember now, and Jax, or any variant, wouldnt work.

Since I dont like names like Jax12345, I had to come up with something else. Preferably something with Jax in it. After some time thinking about it, JaxRiot came to my mind.

I dont know how I came up with it, but I liked it, and have been using it ever since.

Back in the days of 'Microsoft Game Zone' when I played MW3 and MW4 I went by the name of Termite (why? who knows).

Well some other guy started also using the name (even though I had been playing for over a year) and he quickly got a bit of a rep as a scumbag (which then filtered down to me). I decided to let him have the name and so I needed to think of something else. I did one yahoo search for 'Greek Names' (yet again who knows why) and Æëtes popped up, I tried it and MSN game zone was like 'Nope... No weird characters buddy' So I changed it to Aetes as to me the extra e looked weird. It worked and I have now used it for about 15 years.

Wasn't sure what to expect when I hit play... Thoroughly enjoyed it. On the 3rd play I realised that it reminds me of Combichrist. ++Good!

Well as a former AH-64 pilot, that had a real lucky streak when deployed against forces in Iraq, till I got on the wrong end of a ZSU, the other Gunship crews took to calling me King... And I've got a thing for Latin, hence Regem (Latin for King), and Metus (Latin for fear) came from after getting shot down, in a bad way, I couldn't climb back into the cockpit after seeing my gunner get blown away by that ZSU....

I'm a Steiner lover by lore. Always have. While roleplaying in 2nd Ed MW RPG, used the "Noble Scion" Archetype template..and decided to make it interesting, would use a cadet branch of the Steiner family as a favorite nephew of the disgraced (and thought dead) Frederick Steiner.

As for Bishop?

Semper Fi

I was in ELMACO at Lejeune 2000-2003

My name comes from that period. Right after 9/11 I participated in a test program to see how much Arabic we could learn in 30 days. Moomtazz means "Excellent" and my teacher had a funny way of saying it with real gusto. I was heavy into Counterstrike at the time so I just started using it as my name.

The only other Arabic I remember...Where is the bathroom? Where are the crazy people? Where are the ******? Your mother is a ***** (personal favorite)

In the early days of WoW, while naming my warlock, I repeated clicked the random name button until I found a couple of sounds that I liked, then I stuck them together.

I've gone by this name in games for so long that I worry that I might actually respond to it if called out in public.

And yeah, "Where is the bathroom" is an important one to know anytime you go to a foreign country. Posted Image

I've been using mine for years in gaming, though sometimes as The ZenFoolOne. Its a play on words. A Fool makes no sense, a Zen Fool makes sense that no one understands. Its also a bit of a jab at my many bible thumper neighbors, bless their hearts. For you see, I am certainly Sin(Zen)ful(Fool). I appreciate word games, what can I say?

Btw, thanks for putting this thread up, its a welcome change from the normal posts on here.
