Interesting though that I see a mix of players enjoying and hating this mech, I feel almost compelled to start an appreciation thread. I really love these mechs.. ..my BW is even Salmon Pink for the week (due to a comp in my division)!
I would go as far as calling this the centurion of the heavies, with its fine waist, survivability and good firepower. It is a sweet spot where it neither needs nerfs, or buffs imo. It has good hardpoints that makes it a versatile heavy. I even run SPL in my 6D and that is a beast too!

After experimenting with different loadouts this is what I'm currently bring into the battle.
WHM-BW - 2x LB 10-X, 4x ML, 2x MG, STD280
The engine could be replaced with any XL-engine and more ammo/armor/DHS, but according to my experiences quite a lot player expecting an XL in the WHM.

I'm playing it as second line support brawler. Keeping myself behind the assaults (leaving them space to maneuver) and shooting at the same target as them.
But even alone this is a serious threat for many mechs.

With quirks and the range module the ML get 25% more range, as second weapon module I would consider the LB-X cooldown.

So i just got my hands on the widow and have been trying things a lot of things
so far my favorite builds have been:
-2 ac20, 4 ml's and a 250 std engine
-2 ac10's and 4 ml's and a 280 std engine

I cant bring my self to run a xl engine as my main play style is that of a brawler.
On average putting between 400 - 600 damage a game, mainly due to missing a lot of early trading due to range

After struggling with a nearly stock loadout I am having good games with this build:

2x LBX-AC (6 tons ammo), 4x MPL, 280XL

Just wanted to throw it out there. Earlier tonight I wrecked a lot of face with this. 1st run on Manifold - 3 kills, 4 assists, 851 damage.

I originally put an XL340 in it, w/ 4 LPL and max armor. It was good, but not gud enuf... I wanted something different from all of the other energy whammies I have, and wanted to make proper use of those 4 ballistic slots. I put back the xl280 it came w/, removed the LPL's, added 2 AC5 and 2 AC2, as much ammo as I could stuff for each, and 2 MPL in the arms. Also, using a AC5 cooldown maxed out, so the AC2's and AC5's are pretty much all firing at the same time. It does so much more damage than any of my other whammies. I love the dakka...

have tried running both quad ac5 and dual uac10s with a streak SRM6. any one do the math on DPS if its more viable to use the quad ac5 or just go with dual uac10s with other support weapons?

I've has success with 2xRotary AC5s, 4 ERML. The heat is high, but manageable. I've got an XL engine that moves I think @ 76kph

I like a mix of weapons,max armour,dhs,and an lfe. I use 2 LPPCs,2 MLs,1 MRM10,an LBX2,and three LMGS.
