Dear MWO pugs,

Please never be afraid of comp units in group que. The worst thing you can do is let them intimidate you into playing passive and defensive. Seriously just pick a good spot to push from and barrel into them. The worst that happens you died like men, the best you kill half or more of their team instead of getting rolled 0-12. Be brave Mechwarriors! The games are more fun for everyone that way.

I hope this video inspires you to go out there and give a good fight.

only if you see a couple different ones on the other team.. they usually run the communication game a little better, that being said i've been on the same team as battle magic, swol and kcom and i was the only one furiously trying to type out what we were doing.... they never came onto coms once. SRoT however.... very vocal guys always willing to lead if needed.. great group in my book

i need a mic so dang bad

When everyone knows what they're doing, there isn't much to say.

I usually don't even look at who I am fighting, I don't really care. The main issue is there often is no teamwork in pugging, so intimidation isn't really the issue. People who are pugging either need to step up and lead, or listen to whoever is trying to lead. If no one is leading, or bothering to listen they have no excuse that they lost.

Joseph Mallan, is that you?

In the end, "great names" are just that, names. I saw known comp players fail as hard as everyone else, I lost in matches that should be wins just looking at the units from the players. I stopped worrying about that.

Sometimes it is just better to not know too much about MWO and its players.
I had a match with edmiester in a jenner on bog, and some guy said he should come back and be careful and stuff, obviously not knowing who that is.

Ed outdamaged us all in that match and still had the time to write some snarky comments in chat Posted Image Posted Image

There are no pugs in the group queue, premise is null and void.

Yeah, I agree with the premise of this post....

Just wish most "group" drops weren't essentially PUG drops against superior forces, lol. (Superior as in coordinated). It amazes me how little teamwork and communication I still see in Group Queue, so often.

Probably why I prefer PUGlandia in Solo Queue... at least there I know not to expect anything remotely like coordination 90% of the time, so it's not near as frustrating.

Plus it's amazing how many people on competitive teams are much less impressive without their teammates. Some guys will still absolutely shred you, but there are also a fair number who simply don't impress, solo. Which ain't a crime. While some players don't get or won't admit it, Solo Drops and Group drops are indeed totally different animals, and excelling at one doesn't mean a dang thing in the other.

And even against Ed, Heimdelight, etc.... rather be getting shredded by ONE of them than a team of them.

Still, it's true. If you can coordinate, communicate, focus fire and above all, play aggressively you can do some serious damage, and even sometimes beat, the Big, Bad Comp Units.

Sadly, those are 4 things the majority of the playerbase seem singularly incapable of doing, lol.

Pick up Group.

Ever see the LFG feature in the UI? Or notice the Public Dropships in the TS servers? Often times randoms get together to drop. Still PUGs.

The thing is, if you let the organized team play their game, you are doomed for certain. If you attack aggressively, you put them under pressure where they are forced to react to you instead of just pushing you around. They may be better players, in better mechs, but when you are right on top of them, they don't have a lot of options, and they overheat just like everybody else. Battle plan, forget it, it just went out the window.

Fight hard, they will respect you more for that.

In addition to what adamts01 said, we higher tiered players ARE usually on comms, just in TS. the best bet when playing with a bunch of high tier players who don't seem to be communicating is to ask them where they want you to be, or just file in next to them and deathball it up.

I don't fear the "comp" crowd. I pity them.

I forget sometimes if I'm drop lead for our group to talk into in-game voip. Usually if we're in CW we designate someone to use chat to relay tactics and strategies to anyone not in our TS with us.

Didn't look like you had a bad team there. They put up a nice defense, if you had another person and push out a little sooner you might have won.

We got absolutely rolled by a comp unit the other day in CW despite playing with a group and decent coordination. Not much you can do against a 11 Timberwolves loaded with SRM's and MPL's (and one LRM warhawk oddly enough), then a full second wave of the same and then an AC rush for those that needed their third mech.

CW is a vastly different beast than PUG though.

Well if the comp players are the same ones that can't adjust to LRMs on Polar and think the game is unbalanced because a handful of IS mechs can outrange Clan mechs with ERLL, then I don't think there's really much to be worried about.
