So I have discovered that outside of the Cheetah I can do pretty good work in a Hellbringer. I have tried several builds and while I can be effective with them I am not sure what is the very best strategy to use. So I am turning to fellow Hellbringer Pilots to see what you have found to be effective.

So far I have tried
2 Large Pulse and 2 Streak 6

4 Large ER lasers

1 Large ER laser and 5 ER medium Lasers

2 AC 5 and 4 ER Medium Lasers

1 Gauss Rifle and 5 ER Medium Lasers

Can you suggest builds that you have tried that maybe I have not thought of. Typically I find myself in backing up assault or better brawler mechs and adding my fire to them. Or on a maps that are a bit more open I typically stay in the middle of the pack to provide ECM cover.

1ERPPC, 2 ERMLs, 4 ERSLs, 2 MGs ... if you shut down it is your own fault

Avoid the 4 ERLLs unless you like shooting at range, reason is Ghost Heat prevents Alpha Striking.

Streaks are nice for range but take some time to get lock.

If you do the AC5 build again, switch to UAC5s.

Hello, i use hbr with 1gauss+4med lasers
2LPL+3med lasers
2uac+4med lasers
Its an excellent mech for maps like viridian bog or forest on tier 4.
You can put 6mpl too if you want, but i dont like too much.

Wildsteak, for sure avoid the alpha fire of 4 Lasers. I usually fire 2 by 2.
Shura Thank you for your response. I will try out the 2UAC

Both of these run fairly cool and put out a ton of damage.

Midrange: HBR-PRIME

Brawling: HBR-B

I agree with everyone who mentions the UAC5s.

I have 2 builds:

4 ERML
1 Gauss

4 ERML
2 UAC5s

Both are fantastic.

Bought the Prime tonight. Struggled with the stock configuration for a bit before going over to 2x cERLLAS, 2x cMPLAS, and an LRM-15. It's done fairly well for me in the handful of games that I've run it.

Might work now for u that build, but I highly recommend the prime build process gave you.
It's my fav build and its averaging me about 475dmg in more then 200 games :)

besides the 2LPL + 2 Streak 6, those other builds are pretty much spot on as far as the optimal 'meta' builds go.

I have had success in this build. 3 x lb-2x + 4x erML + ECM 4 1/2 tons ammo

It might seem really unusual and stupid, but here me out. It was not that hard to do just fine in it (450 - 600+ dmg range) in tier 2. There is nothing tricky about piloting it besides setting your keys. I put 3 groups on the lb-2x on chainfire, but it would be a lot easier to use a macro.

The reason I used lb-2x over AC-2s is the fact that the lb-2x has a cooldown module and is thus the fastest firing ac-2 in the game before quirks.
It works as intended. It is quite obvious that people cannot aim and freak out when I start spraying them with triple lb-2x.

I was quite pleased with how practical it turned out. The rate of fire is insane.

I use the HBR-B build too and I recommend it.

My two others run:

1 LPLAS and 5 ER mediums

2ERLL and 4 ER mediums

I have always had a hankering to double down and load one up with a UAC or gauss and MLs though.

You want to stay at range with the HBR because it doesnt shield its CT too well when brawling and when mounting missiles, the STs get popped quickly. Stick with the Gauss + MLs or LPL + MLs.

I too bought a Hellbringer on sale, and feeling some buyers remorse, none of the recommended builds are very good, and I find it just to wimpy to think of brawling with, it overheats almost every shot and if it takes more than a couple hits, its junked. I am wishing I had just waited and got something tougher.

You need to fix all of your builds. Remove the pulse lasers and max your armor.
Example below of your prime build.
HBR-PRIME

Most run HBRs with a Gauss rifle.

Currently running TC1, 6xERML, ECM and the rest is heatsinks.

I have all as an alpha on mouse 1 and 4x on mouse 2.

This allows an alpha of 42, whilst allowing me to control the heat with 2.

Pulse generate too much heat for that extra point and weigh more, thus reducing the amount of HS and other gear you can install.

HBR requires max armour...
